Claver, You suffer from “ stag euphoria “ many of us, including me also suffer. Perhaps this year the disappointment will end?
What would constitute a “disappointment” for you, Stag74? How would each of you out there define it?
i have always believed that sustained performance over a longer period of time defines real success. I would measure success by the results achieved during the regular season. So that said, disappointment for me would be to have less then a .500 record and to not finish at the top of the league this year.
With the parity of teams in the MAAC, league record in a vacuum is an inaccurate measure of success. -- but over 500 for sure. One game either way can be a dramatic swing in seedings.
-- I think the real measure of success is a top 4 finish, getting to the MAAC Tourney championship game and winning that game. -- This is now a veteran team. No excuses. Get in condition, avoid injuries and play to your "perceived" potential.
The key is you want a very successful season to usher in the new era and create a buzz for opening the building.
- It would be a disaster to have a P.I.G. team this season or be 1 and done in the MAAC Tournament.

Yeah I too would be extremely disappointed if the Stags couldn't avoid the PIG situation again. And in that regard having a real good league regular season record, thereby insuring that reality, would be as or more important than making a run in the MAAC tournament unless of course they were able to actually win that event. But even in the non-league games, winning a few of them should be an expectation. Indeed showing real progress as signaled by a positive total record would certainly help to create the buzz for the new building as well as show that Jay Young is the man for the job for an extended time. This is a crucial year for the program to take a major step forward.
I believe that the mediocrity of the last few decades has lowered the bar for expectations too much, especially for me. It's time to consistently win regular season games and have a chance to advance in the MAAC tournament.
I do believe we have the right coach to accomplish this and anything less will be a real disappointment.

Well its interesting. We finished the regular season 7-16; 9th in the conference and it took overtime to beat Manhattan to avoid losing in the PIG Game. And some expect a top 3 finish. So do we have stag euphoria at its worse or is this realistic? I do agree with others that we should be a top 4 team, above 500 and advancing in the tourney to at least the semi's. But I wonder what expectations would be if that last second shot for Manhattan had fallen and we lost in the Play in game? Interesting to consider.
Like Longtime and others, I am concerned a bit about scoring. But we started winning because of Wojcik's scoring, and improve offensive efficiency from Rose and Cruz. Add Leach back to the mix and we should score more than last year. We have some very good experience and I think we should have the best record we have had since our 16-15 record. So I am down for at least 17 wins this season. So maybe this is one stag who has consumed Amanita muscaria (magic mushrooms) and is feeling that pre-season stag euphoria, but I think this will be our best season in a while, 18-20 wins could be in reach if we have the scoring.

Coaching and team expectations would probably be no different. They believe in each other and know their day-to-day talent. I would assume they are focusing on a league title and winning the MAAC tournament... and to some degree or other believe they can.
I think I'd still be looking for a .500 or better MAAC record, regardless of the outcome of the Manhattan game. We're year 3... with a pretty normal off-season... need to start improving.

Well despite the fact that I have no idea if I have consumed "Amanita muscaria," until this very moment something I had never before heard of, basically I think you have hit it right on the nose as far as what I am thinking for the REALISTIC possibilities of the Stags in the coming year. And if they do indeed finish in that range of between 17-20 wins and are in top form near the end, who knows what might happen in early March. Yeah come to think of it, I like those magic mushrooms!

Good to spot Leach in the practice video. He is going to be counted upon.

The Stags-veteran line-up-better finish top 3/4 or many questions will be asked at year end.
Veteran lineup is relative to the level of experience that the other MAAC teams are bringing back.
I see all 5 returning starters on Manhattan's roster, including two All MAAC players. I believe Quinnipiac has four starters back and their Texas A&M transfer. We know Iona is loaded, and 4th place Canisius has four of their 5 starters back.
I'm not sure what's going on with everyone (only 7 players listed on St Peter's roster, Monmouth's roster is not listed, Siena has 3 starters listed but lost Pickett and Camper). Point is that although Stags have a veteran lineup, probably everyone else does too.

Wow, I will tell you that the doormouse didn't actually say "feed your head", but thanks to Jefferson Airplane that's what he will be remembered for......
