I feel the upside on Maidoh and Cook is quite a bit higher than Crisler, but I do think Young felt Crisler was more ready to contribute last season. Certainly Crisler showed he can box out, set a pick and take a charge, not sure offensively he delivers the firepower we will get from another player at that spot.
I also think that Young is more comfortable with Crisler shooting a 3 than he would be with Maidoh or Cook shooting a three. If Crisler could improve his % from beyond the arc, we’d also have the advantage of Crisler having good passing angles to drop it down low to either Cook or Maidoh, due to Crisler’s height. Personally, I prefer Cook in the low post — I feel he’s more comfortable scoring while drawing contact compared to Maidoh. Something that really surprised me looking at last year’s stats was Chef actually had a better % from beyond the arc than Crisler, but Chef only had 16 attempts from beyond the arc compared to Crisler’s 59.
Agree. Crisler is not terribly athletic, but he knows how to play. Having a big guy able to put up points from the outside is a huge benefit...hopefully he can shoot it a little more consistently.
It's good to have bigs that can compliment each other and give different looks. I remember Young talking about Crisler on one of the interview shows. He covered his abilities but mentioned that Zach needs to become like a 38%-40% 3P shooter and not a 30% 3P shooter.
I could be off on the exact numbers, but that was the gist.

Chef seemed to be reprimanded from young early in the season over a few ill advised threes he took, I can't say whether it was too early in the shot clock, because he didn't run the offense or whether it was over his shot selection. But he then seemed to get timid from deep. He entered the program a very respectable 40% shooter from beyond the arc, and I feel watching him he has the potential to be a good 3 point shooter.
