Former Fairfield great Troy Bradford named head coach of Norwalk-based Connecticut Cobras
Hamden native and former Fairfield standout Troy Bradford has been named head coach of the expansion Connecticut Cobras.
The Norwalk-based Cobras, who begin play in March 2022, are part of The Basketball League. The minor league organization formed in 2018 and has 29 teams throughout the country, with plans to add 16 teams in 2022.
The Cobras are owned by Norwalk native and former Wilbur Cross coach Anthony Hill.
Bradford attended Wilbur Cross and Hamden Hall before starring at Fairfield. He is a member of the Fairfield University Athletic Hall of Fame and the MAAC Hall of Fame at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall.
A guard, Bradford had 1,648 points for Fairfield from 1985-89. He played 10 years as a professional, starting with Connecticut in the USBL before spending time in Spain, Italy and in leagues in the United States.
As a coach, Bradford has led the CT Flame Boys (17U), Greenwich Connecticut Flame, King Low Heywood High School, and the Darien Girls Basketball Travel Team. He started his own AAU organization — United Sons and Daughters — in 2007.
“Troy’s experience both on and off the court professionally fits the Cobras and The Basketball League model that we’ll embody,” Hill said in a statement. “We are excited to have such an accomplished Connecticut basketball legend leading us into our first season in the TBL.”
Said Bradford, “I am honored that the Connecticut Cobras thought enough of me to give me the chance to lead a group of young aspiring men. This opportunity is everything to me. I’m a big advocate for young people in helping them reach their potential and goals. The community and sponsors can expect our young men to conduct themselves with class and dignity on and off the court. They will also be active in the communities around Connecticut, which is important.”

Another article in the paper today (C. Post) about Troy and his new adventure. Interesting though that his new team is still looking for a place to play their home games.
