Buffalo early? Maybe it's for the best when taking into consideration the weather possibilities in early December as opposed to later in the winter. And despite the two losses up there to Niagara last season, the Stags have actually been pretty good in recent years of at least coming back with a split in the two games. As far as the rest of the slate is concerned, other than (again) almost no Saturdays and maybe too many Sundays that will hurt attendance because of NFL competition, I have little problem with what I am looking at. Actually I wish our home contest with Iona was much later in the season (like in February) in order to draw a huge crowd, something that may not happen as much based on the January 2nd date. Anyway it is what it is and I hope the team is ready to finally impose some will on their league foes. Go Stags!

Only Saturday home game is presidents weekend. Since FU is a short term tenant, I’m guessing little flexibility from the Arena. When the new gym is complete, our hoops teams will get priority scheduling.
Three man weave ACC preview has BC coming in last in the league but also claims BC will be switching from a fast paced offense to a defense first mindset. Our game with them could turn out to be a very low scoring one.
Sound familiar? New BC coach Earl Grants strategy in ACC, “ In Grant’s world, possessions are precious commodities. He’s disinterested in getting caught up in a track meet with superior talent. To level the talent playing field, he’ll deflate the tempo and aim to ‘out execute’ the opposition, while leaning on an ironclad defense to stay within arm’s reach. “

Is the Medgar Evers game included in our regular season W-L record or is it considered an exhibition game?
Are team and personal stats from this game (scoring, FT%, Rebs, etc.) included?
Pretty sure that, unless the game is listed as an exhibition, the game counts. Think of the games the Stags played, in the good old days, against Bridgeport, Montclair State, Allentown, ... Those all counted.
Now, in terms of their impact on the RPI (or whatever they call it nowadays) I don't think they have an impact. Beating Medgar Evers by 50 isn't going to boost our rating (though I suspect losing would).
Just took a gander at the schedules for other MAAC schools and it is interesting to note that several are playing a "Medgar Evers" type game.
Canisius is playing Fredonia State. Manhattan is playing Manhattanville. Niagara is playing St Thomas (I doubt they'll win) St Peters is playing Nyack.
Had to remove the Niagara/St Thomas game. Turns out the University of St Thomas is now a D-1 school.

And Quinnipiac plays Western New England. The game counts as a win or loss, and the stats count, for sure. However, I don't believe the NCAA counts the D2/D3 games toward eligibility for the NCAA tournament. Of course, that doesn't matter for a team in a one-bid league.
Young wants to guarantee an early win, avoid an 0-3 start (Providence, BC, Sacred Heart). That's why Medgar Evers is on the schedule.

Nothing has caused me to lessen my enthusiasm for the coming season more than the fact that Young believes there’s a decent chance we’re going to lose at Sacred Heart. Apparently, Young believes we’ll be more like the team we saw the first half of last season than the team we saw in the MAAC tournament.

To be fair, I'm the one who thinks a 1-3 start is most likely. Can't speak for Young, though I think it's safe to say he wants an early win after Providence and BC.

The answer is yes and yes. Results and stats go on the regular season record. And as I see some have noted, many of the other MAAC teams are scheduling similar type games all because of a change in league policy recently. Almost all the other leagues in the country (including Power 5) have been allowing member schools to use flexibility in scheduling a game like this anyway, so this is nothing surprising in relation to the sport.

Well coaches tend to be somewhat cautious in the beginning just in case there is a poor start to negotiate. That said, SHU does return a pretty good team from a year ago with high-scoring guard Tyler Thomas leading the way. So just because the Stags have never lost to the Hearts doesn't mean an automatic victory again, especially since this is the first time the game will have been played at the Pitt Center. But I'd like to think the experience at the end of last season plus the fact we probably have more depth could be the difference in pulling out a victory. One game at a time however. And I wouldn't lose too much enthusiasm for what is to happen when speculating on anything before any results become available.
