Visited campus a few days ago to check in on the new arena construction before a stags home game. While driving around the north end of campus I noticed that FF is building additional new townhouses in the area near the existing townhouses. Not sure how many additional units are being constructed because only the foundations have been constructed so far. I guess additional housing is needed for the larger incoming frosh classes.

I thought they were going to put up some more 3 story apartment buildings up there? They need more density in the new housing if they want to increase the student body size.

From the MIRROR: Fairfield Rises Even Further, With Talks of New Dorm Construction Across CampusCurrently at Fairfield University, students and faculty have witnessed construction taking place near the upperclassmen townhouses. With a wide fenced area, construction workers working in bright green vests, and big yellow excavators stationed around the premises, members of the University are wondering what this construction is for. According to Charles Sousa, Senior Associate Director of Housing Operations at Fairfield University, construction of two new blocks of townhouses is what is being witnessed. These two additional blocks will make room for an additional 84 beds to the existing bed count.... Many students have been concerned about lack of housing as Fairfield’s student population has grown. There has been much discussion surrounding new converted triples especially, which were established for the Class of 2025 due to a lack of available rooms. Ten percent of the first-year class were placed in forced triples. To address this concern, Residence Life is further discussing construction of a new dormitory building in the first-year quad, according to Sousa. Although still in the planning phases, it is anticipated that such construction will occur.... fairfieldmirror.com/breaking-news/fairfield-rise-even-talks-new-dorm-construction-across-campus/

"triples", age of existing townhouses (they are at or beyond their projected life), previous sales of land = historic mismanagement

From what I have observed the great majority of the town houses have been renovated so I do not think the majority of the townhouse inventory has exceeded its useable life. Of course still a few more units need renovation. I continue to believe the Father Kelly decision to sell off the 10-15 acres of contiguous land on the north corner of the campus to a home developer was a major mistake. It was a short sighted decision to plug a budget gap that will be a strategic mistake for many years to come.

"triples", age of existing townhouses (they are at or beyond their projected life), previous sales of land = historic mismanagement Absolutely horrible as well as underfunding athletics for far too long. Hopefully we are on our way to fixing some of these issues. We do continue to buy houses opportunistically.

..." the design, construction and equipping of a new six-story, 200-bed residence hall building in addition to, the design and construction of a three level, 440 space parking garage"....The new dorm is going to be built at the Quad. The Parking Garage that was built in 2017 next to the Kelley Center has 380 spaces on two levels plus the upper deck level. Where on campus is this new 440 space parking garage going? Hopefully not what Joni Mitchell sang about in 1970? My guess is they put the new parking garage on the Quick Center parking lot. They need the parking there for the night graduate students going to the new DSB not to mention for Quick Center events. Quick Center Parking Lot

I hope they don't destroy the park like area in the middle. Unless of course they build one of those skinny towers like they're building in Manhattan these days between Gonzaga and Loyola

Took a cruise through campus over the weekend.
From appearances, it looked like a massive amount of work to be completed in a few weeks.
The new townhouses are moving along but the exterior siding of the existing units, including roofing, looks like it has a long way to go. - Hope the plan is to get everything done by the start of the semester.
Additionally, the front of Gonzaga had huge openings on the top 3 floors. Not sure what is going on here but it looked like a major lounge being added in the middle the floors, but that's guess. - My point is again it looked like a lot of work to be completed in a few weeks.
Also major work around the CUF and the road heading down to the residences on that side of campus.

A couple of views of the new townhouses...Meh...I guess they had to fit in with the existing townhouses. It just looks like a cheap suburban apartment complex. I wish they have just razed the entire townhouse complex and duplicated the graduate student complex across from the old Dolan School of Business. This complex was a great addition to campus.

Modernizing Gonzaga...Now we're talking! (I wonder how the always eclectic Gonzaga Ground crew feels about this.) They need to modernize and open the brutal exteriors of the entire Quad.

Drove by Gonzaga today and It looks incredible now that the windows are installed. Looks like a brand new building.
