Where have you gone Wally Pip? Unfortunately Lou L-S. only has this year. Lou Gehrig had another 2,130 games. And Paige had a bit more than a headache. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wally_Pipp

Great article on Lou today in the Connecticut Post. Most of the article features comments about her from Joe Frager.

UConn shot 59.1% FG but had 27 turnovers that led to 28 Princeton points. A very lucky win after blowing a 15 point lead. UConn women’s basketball picked up one of its gutsiest wins ever, defeating the Princeton Tigers 69-64.Nika Mühl suffered an apparent head injury in the third quarter when she hit the back of her head on Aaliyah Edwards’ knee after colliding with a Princeton player. She needed to be helped off the court and went into the locker room. Mühl did not return to the bench. In the fourth quarter, Lou Lopez Sénéchal — who had 18 points — came up limping with four minutes left in the game, went to the bench at the next timeout and did not return. With both players injured, Caroline Ducharme and Inês Bettencourt were the only guards left..... www.theuconnblog.com/2022/12/8/23500922/uconn-huskies-womens-basketball-guts-out-win-over-princeton-69-64Lopez Sénéchal began limping in the fourth period and after a timeout, she went to the bench and did not return to the game. Afterwards, Auriemma revealed the fifth-year guard has been dealing with a foot strain for “about two weeks”. Lopez Sénéchal explained that decision to sit was made with the rest of the season in mind. “My foot is fine...I just tweaked it a little bit,” she said. “It was just hurting more. But just wanted to be safe and not hurt it anymore to be able to [play] in all the games.”www.theuconnblog.com/2022/12/9/23501325/two-more-starters-depart-with-injury-in-uconn-huskies-womens-basketballs-win-over-princeton

Lou playing hurt in a loss to Maryland today on an incredibly depleted UCONN team and still scored 16 points with 4 fouls early in the 3rd quarter.
Huskies have a number of marquee starters out and are relying more on Lou than I'm sure Geno ever imagined. As a result she is now a primary outside shooter. Defenses are really keying on her and she still averaging almost 18 pts a game.
FG: 50% 3 PT: 52.9% FT: 95%

#20 Maryland beats #6 UConn 85-78 for the first time in program history while Page Bueckers, Azzi Fudd, Mika Muhl, Dorka Juhasz, Ice Brady were unavailable on the bench in sweats and Lou played with a nagging foot issue but still had 16 points. To make matters worse, Geno's 91 year old mother died three days earlier.

A friend had an extra ticket to UConn-Seton Hall this afternoon, so I tagged along. Lou scored the quietest 14 points I've ever seen. The Huskies ran Seton Hall out of the building early, eventually winning 98-73. Muhl and Ducharme punched above their weight offensively, both scoring about 10 points over their season averages. And Seton Hall is a relatively small team so UConn pounded the ball inside to take advantage of the size differential -- Edwards, Griffin and Juhasz all scored in double figures. UConn did not run many plays for Lou. Basically, she had to pick her spots and make her own way. She shot 6-10 from the field and 2-4 from three. I completely understand why she was not an offensive priority on this day. But my point is, if UConn ever made Lou the focus of its offense, she would score 35 points a game on most nights. She belongs at this level; she is the dictionary definition of a "scorer."
Obviously, UConn needs Fudd back on the court to succeed in March. But if Geno lets Lou do her thing, she will be a big reason the Huskies are still playing basketball in April.

Auriemma began experiencing flu-like symptoms after shootaround before Sunday's 85-77 win over Florida State, the school said, adding he'll be away from the team through the weekend to recover on the advice of medical staff. "There's been a lot going on in the last couple weeks, and I think it caught up to me physically," Auriemma said in a statement. "I've been feeling under the weather for about 10 days now, and my doctor recommended I take a few days off to fully recover. CD [longtime associate head coach Chris Dailey] and the coaching staff will continue to do a phenomenal job in my absence, and I look forward to returning to the team in a few days."www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/35293002/uconn-geno-auriemma-miss-second-straight-game-illness
