EDISON, NJ (May 27, 2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced a revised championship field format and the championship sites for the 2022-23 academic year, passed by COAA on Wednesday, May 25.
Beginning in 2022-23, MAAC championship fields will include six teams for sports with nine or more teams and four teams in sports with less than nine teams. With the revised championship field format, six-team championships will include baseball, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, softball, and water polo in 2022-23. Four-team championship fields will be men’s tennis and women’s tennis. All remaining championships will feature all teams this upcoming year.
Both men’s lacrosse and water polo change from four to six-team fields. Men’s lacrosse opening round will be played on Saturday, April 29, hosted by the higher seed of each game. The championship semifinals and final will be hosted by the top overall seed on Thursday and Saturday, May 4 and 6. Water polo will be hosted by Marist College from April 21-23, with the revised format eliminating Friday’s practice day and Sunday’s consolation contest.
Other notable championship sites for 2022-23 include volleyball returning to ESPN Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, FL, from November 16 through 19 for the 2022 MAAC Volleyball Championship. The 2018 MAAC Volleyball Championship was the last time volleyball was held in Disney at the sports complex. As announced on March 2, the 2023 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will return for a fourth year at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. MAAC newest member, Mount St. Mary’s University, will serve as the host site for the 2023 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 6 and 7.
