Just read Tom Hanks will be the principal commencement speaker at Harvard this year.
Any word on FU speakers for 2023?
In the Kelley/VonArx years speakers have not created much of a buzz. We haven't had that since Billy Joel.
Thought last year's Rob Manfred, commissioner of baseball, was a step forward.

www.fairfield.edu/news/press-releases/2023/may/73rd-commencement.htmlThis year’s undergraduate ceremony speaker and recipient of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree will be Marcela Orvañanos de Rovzar, founder of several social and humanitarian organizations in Mexico and the U.S., including New York City based Qualitas of Life Foundation, dedicated to teaching financial literacy to Hispanic families I prefer a “name” as a speaker. My classmates (‘91) often talk about ours -Billy Joel. This is a missed opportunity to publicize FU.

The early weather outlook is a 60% chance of rain for this upcoming weekend. Perhaps the “Leo” will host its first graduation ceremony? If the graduation has to be held inside the Mahoney arena will be a giant step up from commencement held in Alumni Hall.

From the forecast I saw this morning, Undergrad looks possibly ok but more likely rain as the day goes by. If they really thought this through, how great would if be with the live cameras on the stage and flash the picture of the graduate as their name is called on the jumbo tron then live as they get their diplomas. Kind of like the player intros. Prep was always inside Alumni Hall. They could really do a very nice production as they know they will be inside the Leo. I'm more concerned about 3 baseball games being completed😜

To my surprise, the Leo was set up horizontally, cutting out the south side chair back seats as they were behind the stage. For this size crowd probably a better option.
As I had the entire ceremony on my tv in the background, what was incredibly obvious was the dramatic difference in the demographic make up of the graduate school providing a more diversified education and broader view of the world.

The Leo doesn’t function well as multipurpose arena ?? Permanent non retractable seats and poor acoustics lesson the functionality of the place.
