I have all the confidence in the world in Casey. Everone one of these guys have played zone at one point or another during their careers so mixing in a zone to break up the tempo with a quick team,or to cool off a run is just sound basketball. If I were on this team I would be looking forward to start the season. At least we will be using every "tool on our belt". Playing time will work itself out also. "Bust it" im practice and just watch the team come together.
Show the championship between Villanova and Georgetown to see a great match up zone worked to perfection by Villanova. The younger players should be excited and the older ones refreshed. This can and will work!
Anyone that thinks they understand a situation like this enough to call leaders cowards with certainty …..without knowing any facts……has never been in the arena. The concept that a non-cowardly leader always leads with his chin is so naive it’s funny.
The only reason i react to it is because calling leaders of a college ….who by most measures are doing a good job….COWARDS, is incendiary and deserves a response. In retrospect, we may find we disagree with them way it was handled, and we may be frustrated, but really?
I have the experience to know…….please read Roosevelt quote on MEN IN THE ARENA………you get used to the NOISE from the peanut gallery when you put yourself out there….and do whaat you think is right and then do your best to ignore the noise. It’s not for most, because most people have thin skin. Takes some stones.
Cowards was meant to be incendiary. I stand by it. A leader doesn’t have to say much but must say something. An adequate statement of “no public comments at the time but pleae be assured that we’re working the issues”.
There are 20 or so players, coaches, managers, other support staff who are directly and publicly affected by this-because of this this, they may win or they may lose-but the immediate uncertainty is something that the leadership can help them through - is there any (public) evidence of that?
The post from the Fairfield Stags Twitter handle, also reposted by Fairfield Men’s Basketball shows Casey and Johns in Atlantic City on Monday. That’s all the statement you need to show he’s not on administrative leave.
Speculation is fair game for Young and Dougher given the announcement and their names not appearing on the website. But not fair to lump others in.
Personally, I love how we have an experienced HC in Casey to provide stability and leadership. John’s has been involved in a number of our recent recruits. We’ll be ok with this duo this year. Certainly not a step back from JY at the helm.
Young wasn’t fired, he resigned. I don’t think the administration ever stated whether Dougher resigned or was fired.
Am I being unreasonable in thinking the administration could easily clarify Johns’ situation with something similar to one of the following statements:
1. Jay Young and Bryan Dougher are no longer coaches for Fairfield basketball. No action has been taken for any of the other coaches or staff of the men’s basketball program.
2. Assistant Coach Johns is on administrative leave from the men’s basketball team.
I would hope it turns out to be situation #1. Johns name and is being sullied and if what Trilly Donovan is claiming is wrong, the administration should put out a statement to clear his name and reputation.
As of today James Johns remains listed on the stags athletic web site as an assistant coach! I hope that means he remains for the season part of the FF mens program for at least this season.
I wonder if any NCAA rules were broken as a result of the incident that caused JY to step down? Perhaps the university had to make a report to the NCAA and that could be the reason that changes were not made sooner after the team returned from Costa Rica.
I have to walk back a post I made earlier on this thread. I thought that if this story got traction with local news or tv it could create a lot of negative reaction for the university. As far as I can tell it's gotten almost no traction. The CT Post had a blurb a few days ago buried in the bottom of the sports section below high school golf news. The article is simply the university's press release thanking Jay etc. As far as TV goes, I haven't seen anything at all. The only news more than the press release is that from the online sources quoted on this thread. And the only places where this is a story is on various message boards. The UConn Boneyard MBB board goes over it, commenting on whether it would really be a good opportunity for asst's Murray and Young consider.
So.... maybe newspaper sports beat writers don't feel Stag basketball is worth pursuing the question of why a coach would resign 3 weeks before the season. I'm sure if Dan Hurley resigned like this we would have non stop newspaper and TV coverage about it.
Or....the university administration has done terrific job in managing the story.
It appears as if Fairfield University Men's Basketball and the Jay Young "stepping down" situation is pretty much irrelevant to the CT POST, CT Insider, News12 Connecticut, the area media and even the on campus student newspaper The Mirror. Apparently "inquiring minds don't want to know."

Over the years, most on this board have bitched about the lack of local coverage for FU.
Here's your payoff.😉
p.s. I ran into someone who has be very closely involved with FU for years yesterday.
They had no idea of the events of the week.

Honestly I think some of us are being a bit naive if we think a story like this is going to create a great deal of old-fashioned newspaper or electronic media coverage for a mid-level college program such as Fairfield because of a general lack of time and space, not to mention reporters available for such stories in the modern world of how the media operates today. UConn, obviously that would be a big difference if it was the Huskies involved. But that said, I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of follow-up stories in the next week or two in say the Connecticut Post as the situation resolves itself before the actual season gets under way. Anyway as a comparison, it's surely different than about 20 years ago when the program had another big problem (as many will remember), a problem that caused a lot of articles and opinions, particularly by Post reporter Mike Puma, currently a Met's beat reporter for the New York Post. All I'm saying is it was "different" back then regarding media coverage whether we liked it or not. Maybe less chatter on the internet however.
Totally second Nash’s post above. Perhaps we need some intrepid reporters ( think Woodward and Bernstein and a “ Deep Throat” source) to unravel the administration “ coverup”. Obviously I have no idea as to whether there there truly is a coverup but I do feel that some “ leaks” from someone will be coming out soon.
Stating the obvious, it doesn't really matter what happened so, aside from genuine human curiousity, we should just move on. It is terribly unfortunate, should the rumors play out to be true, that a "trip of a lifetime" for many of the players is now scarred by the actions of those who were supposed to be there as chaperones for their well-being. I am 100% behind CC to salvage this season but, longer-term, it's a perfect opportunity to reset the entire program and hope for better fortunes than those over the past decade or so....
