Good assessment. Still think a ton of potential here. Sorry to see him look elsewhere. Maybe a fresh start needed. Wonder what kind of move he is looking for? Down? Lateral? Think up will be tough.
I feel like a lateral move would make the most sense. Perhaps he could follow Maidoh to SB?
I'd think down (NEC?). I don't see a lot of immediate minutes for him, if he tries to go lateral. Also, agree with the idea that he's a kid who could use a red-shirt year and a fresh start. Often felt like he was pressing when he was in the game (especially on the offensive end). Had one stretch where I thought he was doing some good things, then it kind of stopped.
The site I looked at said that JJJ entered the portal in November of 2023. He returned to the team shortly thereafter, so unless he resubmitted his name, I question the fact he's in the portal.
Saddened that JJ Jr probably won’t fulfill his promise here. He came out of HS a year early and then the coaching staff issues to deal with. This is a kid who, imo, badly needs a red shirt year/ fresh start.
I personally like JJJ quite a bit. If he doesn't find the right situation, can he, like before, change his mind and stay at Fairfield?
Jesus Cruz looked to transfer then decided to do his 5th season at Fairfield. Yes, if the coaching staff is okay with you returning if you don’t like the transfer possibilities—- a player can stay at the school, if he wishes.

I hope he does stay. But I think he needs a redshirt season to bulk up / let his body mature among other things. Depending on who stays, he’s a probably a sub next year - not great for a touted recruit. I saw a couple of things last year that said “star” - didn’t see that this year -
IMO, if there's additional movement in the A-10, FF could be a possibility. UMASS is gone after next season and there could be more departures. Keep in mind that the A-10 is looking to build a Lacrosse league and I'm sure that after being shut out by the CAA and their expansion, there's no FF loyalty there. This will all happen pretty quickly and FF is finally in a good spot, with the success of Women's and Men's Basketball, the continues success of women's sports in general, the new facilities, record applications and acceptance rates, and an endowment worth nearly 6 times that of some existing A-10 institutions. Adding the existing Jesuit institutions already in the A-10 makes me believe that Fairfield is well placed to make a move up. If not now, when?
Completely agree. Not as much of a long shot as once was with Ffld rise in sports and academics and schools leaving leagues. Personally think we sit in MAAC until A-10 invite develops.
I also agree. When was the last time the A-10 had a top 25 lacrosse team? Top 25 women's basketball? Top25 basketball. Fairfield has had all three recently. Lacrosse is a big issue, A-10 wants it and they are losing UMass a lacrosse school. If Fairfield does get into the A-10 it won't have anything to do with mens basketball.....

I was wondering the same thing, but JJJ retweeted the post saying he was in the portal today. I would think that is 100% confirmation.
Iona has 3 prep commitments so they still have 9 scholarships available. Still when Tobin Anderson was hired, he claimed the transfers he was bringing in were a one year fix and they’d build a culture of success at Iona. Seems like the freshmen he brought in last year either think they’re worth more NIL$$$ than Iona gives out or they don’t like Anderson’s coaching style. Nice to see Iona struggling for a change like virtually every other MAAC team.

I had checked the transfer portal a few weeks ago on Verbal and it looked like JJJ had never removed his name so I assumed he was on his way. Why leave your name in it if you’re staying, right? I think he has talent but was pressing a bit in his contributing role to earn more. That turned into a bit too much inconsistency in shooting, ball handling and defense. He has good instincts and spurts of good play. He just ended up behind a great bunch of must-play guards. He’ll do fine if he selects the right program.
