Can we offer NIL money to our players that enter the transfer portal and we want to retain them? Could we offer Jalen a NIL package to remain at Fairfield?

Many high majors have gotten spoiled and greedy. They cry “how dare xyz no-name mid-major get into a tournament when our team, granted, with a disappointing season, would probably beat them 9 out of 10 times?” And the powers that rule on this stuff listen and further rig the system to the disadvantage of the smaller schools. Most of those calling those shots are likely high major alumni. It’s like biased jury.
I thought St. Peter’s performance in the NCAA would have proven the appeal of Cinderella teams, but it’s getting tougher for mid-majors. Simply have a high major tournament and a mid major tournament and let the winners battle it out for a national championship.
Transfer rules also need to be tightened up

I saw a funny(?) comment on the Indiana men's board. I guess they have had some disappointing years and the poster's idea... with Mark Cuban involved in their $NIL$... was something like: "if any mid-major makes a run to the Sweet 16, can't we just buy their whole team? Hahaha. No. I'm serious."
NCAA fever! Catch it!

IMO, every player who enters the portal does so for different reasons — playing time, coach, environment, economic etc.
And quite honestly, any NIL money we could offer would never be enough for a player of his caliber.
As much as it breaks my heart, if these are the rules, time for the mid majors to compete among themselves.
It started with the NIT. The money grab is with the big boys.

And some players get their 4-year degrees and may not have a path to stay at their school.
If a school does not offer graduate programs how could they ever retain a player who has graduated but is eligible for a 5th year?
Or if the school has graduate programs, but not in the area an athlete wants to further their studies?

We just had a donor funded 51 Million dollar arena. I'm certain we could offer Jalen Leach a competitive NIL offer if we wanted to and if it was prioritized. The ironic thing is that FU is in a great position relative to other teams in the MAAC and in the country honestly. Needs to be a shift in focus if this school wants to take the program seriously. I'm not a fan of the new landscape, but this era can be a big positive for Fairfield if we take basketball seriously.

I 100% agree, Fairfield U is not struggling financially and you won't see anyone in a Soup Line...let's spend some $$$ on these players!!
Let's remember, the schools cannot pay NIL $$, only boosters can
Good point CTBOB that what many of these guys forget who advocate the school putting up NIL funds. There currently is a FF collective that people can contribute to in order to subsidize players. Reach into ur pocket and come up with a $25-$50k contribution to get things moving forward.

Yes, that is a very true technicality. Schools of course have relationships with said boosters and may offer "advice" wink wink as to where their money should be best allocated. Head coaches are openly promoting NIL Funds too.

Quite the list. Frankly I hope Leach doesn't end up with a program that doesn't play him much. I'd hate to see him riding the pine his final season. He's too good to go to a program like Georgetown and be the third guy off the bench.

Brumbaugh has entered the portal from Georgetown. I think Georgetown would love to add an experienced guard like Leach to their roster.
