100% agree. Please tell me who would tell their son not to go to Northwestern over Fairfield? If your hand is up, tell me who would then say one shouldn't do it after you graduate from Fairfield? And then for six plus figures of income while at that better academic school, and better athletic program? Jalen Leach will almost certainly be the highest earner of anyone in his graduating class. That he is a really nice kid, and has been nothing but an exemplary representative of Fairfield is just a bonus. This started because the NCAA was so greedy, and because the same rules didn't apply to coaches as they did to players. I don't like it either, but to tell 22 year olds with families they want to take care of that they shouldn't take what this system provides them seems silly.
Not sure what coaches looking at guards in the portal are prioritizing but I honestly thought Goodine would be the first of our transfers to commit. He finished one made 3 pointer from finishing second in the nation in D1 to Brea of Dayton. To be on the official stats, you have to make 2.5 threes per game, Brycen made 77 threes — if he had made 78, he would be 2nd on the NCAA official stats. Goodine ended the season making 46.7% on his 3s. Brea is also in the portal and from the tweet below, he is visiting two of the top programs in the country in order to decide where he wants to play next season. I never saw Dayton so I can’t compare Brea’s game to Goodine’s but I have a feeling if Brea is being recruited by UConn and Duke that Goodine will also end up at a high major somewhere. I think every D1 coach wants, in no particular order, a good point guard, an excellent interior player and an accurate outside shooter to open up the defense and create spacing opportunities for his offense.
Edit: Just saw in the tweet below that Brea’s Duke visit is off and he apparently is more a pure shooter than a ball handler.
What is the status of Brycen? He is the heir apparent to the crown. Does he want it? Does he see it? He will be the man next year. What a great way to end your college career and create a legacy. I hope he stays.
Spoke to people around the program yesterday. There is currently a hard push for retaining Brycen. They think they are close on doing so. As for Supreme they are also close on getting to a NIL number to make a legit offer for him to come back.
I wanted to share because every dollar counts. I don’t know about everyone else but I have been pleased with the work done so far in the portal. To close out strong Fairfield really needs two more quality players and if they were Goodine and Supreme I think we all would be thrilled. The Red Sea Rising NIL has done great so far but needs an extra boost. I am committing money this weekend and I hope anyone who is able can do the same, like I said every bit counts to help Fairfield complete this roster and keep the ball rolling from last year! If you are interested see the link below!

Earning a scholarship and then having the opportunity to compete at the D1 level for yourself , for your school and your classmates is a privilege. I don’t believe we should pay for a privilege. I cannot see supporting the NIL system with my money!

Well, things are dramatically different today, but I essentially agree. I guess donations and season tickets aren’t enough. Might I support NIL? Maybe. But NOT to bring guys back who walked out on the team and university. Not blaming them…respect their decision and their right to make it. But I’m not paying to bring them back.

Understand the reasoning here but you'll have to pay somebody to replace them. Is there not a lower risk with a known entity?
Really crazy times.

I contribute what I can to the programs during giving drives - but I feel like the NIL is more the arena of local businesses and larger corporations who get "something" from the agreements.

Yup, crazy for sure. And risk no matter what. But let’s put the checkbooks aside. If you walk out to chase the money, I’ll respect your decision and wish you the best. But I don’t want you back, even if I don’t have to pay for it. I’ll roll the dice with a new kid.

That will come for sure but right now it’s all hands on deck. Schools like Iona and Siena have large sums of money to spend on players from corporations and alumni. Any little bit helps even if it’s $10 a month. Everyone has different means and to me I feel like even my small contribution can make a different! I agree with a lot of you that College Basketball is in a weird spot but to ignore this side of the game we will be left in the dust.
And I want to make this clear, contribution isn’t for 1 player or to bring back a certain player (while I mentioned I think the program needs more to bring back guys we all know and love). It’s to enable the staff to go through the recruiting process and have a level playing field with schools we all wish to be level with: Iona, Siena and QU in the MAAC but outside the likes of Fordham, Stony Brook, Bryant, etc.
I as well as all of you want what’s best for Fairfield basketball and want us to have another successful season. And to me, by contributing just something gives me a sense of me helping on that road to success!
