I agree with Sobro. Loyalty is a two way street. If the players have no loyalty to the school and should have the right to explore opportunities via the portal then the school should have no loyalty to a players either. I
I don’t think it’s going to help with roster construction in the future, if in addition to players transferring away — a school becomes known for not renewing scholarships. I don’t think every scholarship should automatically get renewed but I don’t foresee an increase in schools not renewing scholarships from whatever the current percentage is of that happening.
I think "mutual decision to transfer" stuff has always represented a level of a school telling a player they aren't renewing their scholarship.
I'm not sure schools have a lot of power... if they want a winning program. A school can certainly be prickly about scholarships and setting a policy to not allow anyone to return who does enter the portal... and they can then proudly wave their flag of principals emblazoned with their 7-23 record.
Casey did a good job. He also ended up coaching 3 guys (Fields, Leach, and Goodine) who were P5 caliber. Will he have that level of talent, this season? He has some work to do.

You hit the nail on the head! But, I am hoping with success this year, and where some of our transfers end up, combined with the success of the women, players will think of FU more and in a better light. A huge foundation was built this year, now let’s build on/benefit from it!

The MAAC has historically been a guard-oriented league. Look at this year's squad to prove that out. Losing Leach, Goodine, Fields and Floyd drops us quickly from the ranks with the need to replace at least 2 of those departures with immediate contributors. Not an easy task...
C109, Absolutely correct the transfer portal ( 3 guards) plus Fields graduating will eliminate any chance of FF returning to the top 5 next year, IMO. Our strength this year were the all league guards we had in the program. No way Casey is going to bring in four guards of this years caliber via the portal. Not going to happen.
It's only April. The portal dominoes haven't fallen yet so we don't know who will end up at Fairfield. Yetna came in late last year and our best freshman, Smith, was a late commit. There's a lot of time left to build a strong MAAC roster. There's no need to worry at this point. We need to take off our eclipse glasses and let the bright light of Stag Euphoria brighten our Spring and Summer.
The bright light of stag euphoria is always the brightest in the spring and the summer. The eclipse usually starts about late November or early December each year.
