The Fairfield University men's soccer team was selected third in the 2013 Preseason Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll. The rankings were announced on Monday afternoon by the conference office.
The Stags placed third in the poll with 97 points, within striking distance of preseason favorite Monmouth University (111 points) and Iona College (110 points). After Fairfield, Niagara secured fourth place (78 points), while Siena (76 points) and Quinnipiac (72 points) completed the top six. Canisius (48 points), Marist (46 points), Saint Peter's (34 points), Manhattan (30 points), and Rider (24 points) rounded out the conference poll.
In addition, Jordan Ayris (Bicester, England), Reco McLaren (Bridgeport, Conn.), and George Newton (Cheshire, England) earned berths to the Preseason All-MAAC team
The Stags will open the 2013 season on August 30 at 7 pm when they host Hartwick College at Lessing Field.
Fairfield University will host the 2013 MAAC Men's Soccer Tournament at Lessing Field on November 15-17.
