Best thing about the game? Ed Cooley. No joke. Got to sit next to him and hear about how he is doing. Was greeted warmly like he was still the head coach of Fairfield. He loved the school and I think he regrets not being able to take us to the tourney. He is making a lot of progress at Providence. Said he will try and bring his team here next year. Talked about what a stud his recruit from Prep will be. Class act.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) -- Brett Bisping and Rob Poole scored 19 points apiece as Siena used a strong second half to come back and beat Fairfield 64-56 on Sunday.
Bisping made 7-of-11 shots and Poole connected on all 10 of his free-throw attempts for Siena (9-12, 5-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Poole also grabbed five rebounds and made four steals for the Saints.
Maurice Barrow led Fairfield (4-17, 1-9) with 15 points and Justin Jenkins added 13.
Fairfield led 31-25 at halftime but lost its lead for good after a three-point play by Bisping with 6:22 left to play. The Stags were outscored 39-25 in the second half.
Fairfield pulled within four points three times in the final 2 minutes but Siena had an answer each time. Poole made all six of his free throw attempts in the final 30 seconds to secure the win.
We looked defeated even with the score tied. Where was Marcus? KJ had some nice post ups and drives but seemed unsure of himself down the stretch. First game I have seen where we seemed to lose our fight.
Another game, another frustrating loss. Drat and double drat.
On the way in a fan handed me a free ticket, nice start. Later I had my picture taken with Lucas. In the second half I was sitting near Justin Jenkins' family, nice people, happy he is seeing time. So the day wasn't a total loss.
This year is gone, the sophomores and freshman need to turn into juniors and sophomores then we'll really see what kind of coach and team we have.
