1977-78. I believe it was 18 home games. Barakat loaded up the schedule to take advantage of a great team with Joey D., Mark Young, etc. But since then? I don't think so. A couple of thoughts here. Although the slate is tough with a lot of games against very good mid-majors, the fact is with 16 at home this does make it somewhat a fair one to tackle, even with a young and unpredictable squad. I do wish there were more Saturday games, but I know that is beating a dead horse that is never going to change as long as Fairfield is in the MAAC. Another thing to notice is that based upon what a majority of the followers of the league seem the think at this moment, 5 of the first 6 contests in the league appear to be against the best of the lot. Hopefully our team will be ready to pull off a couple of surprises to get some early momentum. Also of note, with so many games right off the bat in November, there is big pressure to play well early to help get rid of the stigma of the previous season. Finally, only 4 games scheduled in December? Not enough to keep sharp IMO. Still 2 spots open with Albany, maybe SHU, but I am beginning to wonder about both. Even Albany, who I thought was a lock to play, does not list us on their OOC schedule that is on their website.
I remember 77-78 very well Nashville. My freshman year at Fairfield. What a year to be there. Alumni Hall was electric. The Holy Cross game that year was amazing.
Had no choice but to be a stags hoops fan after that.
From the Duke Schedule it looks like only the first game at 6:00 pm against Presbyterian (Big South Conference) is being broadcast and nationally on ESPNU:
Fri, Nov 14 Presbyterian Durham, N.C. 6:00 p.m. ESPNU Blue Devil IMG Sports Network
Sat, Nov 15 Fairfield Durham, N.C. 8:00 p.m. Blue Devil IMG Sports Network
There will be no game with Sacred Heart this season, apparently neither side could make the dates work out – so that new, three-year agreement will start in 2015-16...
Iona's game against George Mason on 12/20 will be broadcast on the nbcsportsnetwork. Iona is the only MAAC school on their schedule of 45 games, which is not that surprising since all the games listed are A-10 or CAA games or their OOC games. So there'll be two nationally televised games involving Iona (the other one at 7 am vs Wofford as part of espn's tip-off marathon) before we play Iona this season.
BTW, with some talk on the espn3 MAAC preseason coaches show of how good the MAAC is as a league and how it might be a two bid league this season --- I'd have to think with the two nationally televised games as well as road games with Wake Forest and Arkansas that Iona has put themselves in a good position to possibly get an at-large NCAA bid in March should they not get the MAAC automati ----if they have a successful OOC campaign.
The Sporting News and Lindy's college basketball magazines are out. Lindy's has picked CCSU to win the NEC and the Sporting News has picked them to come in second. It'll be interesting to see how our team does against them to start the season. Both magazines picked Sacred Heart to come in last.

I saw this... Now only problem is the giants Eagles are the same day.... Decisions decisions
We have the 5PM game on a Sunday..... Eagles at Giants play at 1PM, Sounds like a double header to me.
BROOKLYN HOOPS Winter Festival presented by Honda will be at Barclays Center on December 28. This year’s event will include St. John’s, Tulane, LIU, Hofstra, Fairfield and Loyola Maryland. Your ticket to the event will allow you to see all three games.
Match-ups: ■St. John’s vs. Tulane – 12PM ■LIU vs. Hofstra – 2:30PM ■Fairfield vs. Loyola Maryland – 5:00PM
my first reaction to this announcement is good. I have wanted to see a game in the Barclay center which I understand is a beautiful venue. so i'll be there. However, my next reaction is this is BS. We finally have a schedule with more home games then away games and the school is giving the home games away! By 5PM on a sunday, right before Christmas the Barclay center will be completely dead. There will be more ushers and hot dog vendors then fans at this game. it is none sense.
Stags74 - Dec 28th is after Christmas. I think this could not be a better time to do it! Barclays is a premier venue that everyone is raving about in the Tri- State area. Webster would be dead that day with students gone, etc. This will get the regular fans on the road and also get us in front of a wider audience.
Could be a great family event/trip around the Holidays. Somehow they should promote a family holiday outing in Brooklyn.

You could look at it as the WBA is empty, or is it an opportunity on a holiday week to get some local family interest to sample the WBA for Stags Basketball.
On the other hand, yes, Stag families could spend a day in the city and go to the game, IF IT WERE IN MSG. No casual fan is going to Manhattan with their family and jumping on the subway to Brooklyn to see a Stags game.
The Result: --- The hard core fans will be at Barclays (and a nice bonus for our two dedicated Park Slope Fans!) and they would also be at the WBA. --- The NY press will be all over St Johns and the Fairfield game will be lucky to get a mention --- You don't do this for exposure. It is minimal.
I was always opposed to giving up a home game to play at MSG. You have 500 people in a 20,000 seat arena, This has not changed my mind. I would rather try to promote a family event at WBA and have some real family fun at the WBA (like some of the stuff the MAAC does at the Tournament). This might get some folks to maybe make it a event they repeat a few times a year.
Can't wait to see the Barclays, but this does nothing for the program. The Duke game away gives us more exposure.
Stagz ur right 12/28 is after Christmas, I don't know what I was thinking. However, I'm still not interested in giving up a WBA home game to play a game in any of these large arenas remote from Fairfield. After the st johns game which is scheduled that day, everyone will leave including most of the NY Media. So what are you gaining? Perhaps a good guarantee ($$$)? Also, holding a game at WBA should never be determined by whether the student are in session. Why? Because they do not turn out for the games, so they should not be considered as a determining factor. There is one exception. They have historically turned out in great numbers to see the game with sacred heart. The loyola game at WBA,promoted as a family day would be more beneficial to the program them playing the game in an empty arena in Brooklyn.
