I posted an abbreviated version of this in the LACROSSE blog, but if you LOVE FAIRFIELD and LOVE STAG ATHLETICS, I felt I needed to go to a broader audience.
I was able to check out the Rafferty construction in person.
It is MORE than IMPRESSIVE! There is a long way to go, but it will truly transform that whole area of campus and be a gem for Fairfield Lacrosse, Soccer, and Prep Football!
We missed this opportunity in B-ball (despite admirably fighting on with the Arena). NOW is the TIME. Give to the cause, support the cause. Fairfield is being quiet. But, this will be a talked about venue for YEARS to come.
*BASEBALL ALUMS UNITE*
At the end of the stadium near the baseball field, they could even create a dual way box (ie. Could use for lax games, but also baseball viewing). I hope they consider this.
Btw, the baseball facility already looks bad compared to this construction. Hopefully, some baseball alumni step up and try to make a change. That is what it will take!
To end on a positive note, if you want a transformative ATHLETIC event to give to, THIS IS IT!
Anyone wishing to donate to the YOUR NAME HERE Baseball Park or any other on campus facility or Stag athletic program should contact Marie Muhvic. Marie is easy to talk with and is open to your alumni suggestions, feedback and input. earlier I had suggested to Marie a Buy-A-Brick campaign for the entrance walkways and plaza of the new Rafferty Stadium currently under construction. While this type of fundraising is popular with donors, the Administration is not in favor of this type of fundraising initiative at the present time even though there are cost over runs with the stadium.
Where you compete is a sacred spot, the one place where student-athletes can use their intelligence, tactical skill, and fitness to achieve victory. And every student-athlete wants the best venue possible to showcase their talent.
Modern facilities are essential to keeping a program viable. They affect recruitment of both coaches and student-athletes, and provide a fan and student experience. A facility tells a story about your program. These stories capture the minds and of the young men and women who are considering Fairfield University at their college of choice. When a recruit is deciding which college he or she wishes to attend, facilities rank as one of the top three factors in their decision.
Building and renovating facilities reaffirms Fairfield University’s commitment to its athletic programs in a public setting. By making a gift, you can join the University’s commitment to provide students with the finest facilities in the region.
For more information on making a facility gift, please contact Marie Muhvic, Director of Development for Athletics and Recreation at (203) 254-4000 ext. 2474 or by email (mmuhvic@fairfield.edu).
Unfortunately the Alumni Baseball Diamond's original wood bleachers (don't lean back in the top rows) and anchor link fencing is going to look even worse, run down and outdated next to the new Rafferty Stadium and last Summer's renovated Lessing Field's stone piers, fencing and ironwork at the new entrance. I assume that the aluminum bleachers, especially the end zone low bleachers from Alumni Stadium were removed for scrap value rather than repositioning them to the adjacent Alumni Baseball Diamond?
