Kirkland and Threatt will both have critical roles. But while we have a few options at PF, we don't have a safety net at shooting guard. Threatt has to be good. Really looking forward to seeing all the newcomers.

Well since not one person that played the position last year averaged as much as 6 PPG, certainly we are all on pins and needles hoping things will be improved in a big way. Threatt sounds like the man. And I have personally seen Nelson enough to state that I am confident he will be able to do very well in due time. Probably not big numbers right away however because he will be behind Threatt. I am also hopeful that Chappell will be improved a great deal from last season. He did at times show a good ability to shoot the ball (over 35% from the arc). But ball handling and passing have to be better for him to get a lot of minutes.
In addition to his JUCO stats that have been quite impressive, Threatt is also expected to bring Leadership, Experience, and be a Go-to-Guy. While he can also play PG, he will likely be the "Lead Guard" ala Needham. The question is how productive will Threatt be? The expectations should be high, and it seems he has high expectations too. It is a pleasure to read his Twitter account..... he seems always to be "Grinding". He is not your nromal JUCO, who can just score.
I would think Chappell, Nelson and Stevie Johnston will be looking beat out Threatt. But my guess is Threatt will get the first shot.
If Threatt doesn't get the first shot, then you can kiss this year goodbye. None of those other guys have what it takes this year to be the leader. Threat better be great...

To JoeStag's point. The kid is into it. His twitter is all about work and just getting back to school to start the show. I don't get any sense he's afraid of expectations.

Yes, Threatt needs to be very good...... not just in his own stats. He NEEDs to make other players better, by drawing double teams, driving and dishing, and making good passes. Those are the qualities that are needed from both guard positions and even the 3-position. Last year, KJ was the only guard to really do those things and he was just a frosh that needed to improve setting up his teammates. If Threatt can create offense by Making Plays for others, Marcus can improve his Handle/Passing, and the combo of Rose/Segura can give us improved PG player...... then we have a Perimeter Trio that can stretch the defense, and open up the middle for easy baskets.
Can Chappell and Nelson do that too? I have high hopes for both of them, as I consider them 2 of our better guard recruits that we have had in the last 15 years not named Needham, Todd and Han.
