The Fairfield Hoops page reiterating Stags79 point.
"Fairfield Hoops Yesterday at 1:38pm · In 4 pro preseason games, recent Stags graduate Maurice Barrow ’14 is averaging 14 points per game & 5 rebounds per game, while shooting a red hot 56% from 3! Maurice made 40 3s as a senior after only making 3 TOTAL in his fr/soph/jr years combined. Fairfield Players become pros…Who’s Next?!?"
Derek N. one of the three best guards that I have seen in my days (since 1970) at Fairfield, in this order. 1)Joey Desantis.2)Derek Needham. 3) Tony George.
Sigh, we are in desperate need of some DNT magic this year!
While there were many Magic moments for Needham, they all seem to happen during DNT ...... Derek Needham Time (Crunch Time). Just a small sample below, but some of his best. He has to be considered to be one of the greatest Stags of All Time
These are two of the greatest Needham moments but I would also say the Manhattan Game 2 years earlier where he hit a last second 3 was a very memorable game. He had actually shot poorly early in the game but came through in a big way with the game on the line. Needham also had another game that he took control over late in the game where he hit a fade-away three going out of bounds as the shot clock expired that I believe tied the game before hitting a game winner on the next possession. That fadeaway I will also consider the finest shot of needham's career even though the Iona shot is much more memorable because it was a game winner.....

Its hard to argue with this point, but I always wonder what we would think of Troy Bradford if he had anyone around him that could play. He used to shoot the ball with three guys hanging on his back.
I think it is so hard to compare players from different era's. What would George's career point total had been if there had been a three point line when he played? If Desantis had appeared in as many games as some of these other guys that played during the 28 game era, how many points would he have scored? Its impossible to say, so I hate to compare them. I will say during 70's DeSantis was the face of the program, as was George in the 80's and Needham in the 2000's. Francis and Bowman are the players you think of in the Cormier era, and I think of Bradford as the only shining light on those really bad Mitch Buonguoro teams.

74, I think you have to expand the list to 4 and include John Ryan on that list. Those 4 are on a different level all by themselves.
If there is a 2nd Level then you have to consider Han, Todd, Francis, Bradford, Wynder, Fisher, Groom.

AJ Wynder = one of the most undervalued players the stags ever had. He made everyone around him better. Had the highest shooting percentage for any guard to every play at Fairfield. He had more assists than the starting point guard. More rebounds than the starting small forward. Led the team is steals and is the stags all time steals leader (You won't find that stat in the media guide)
I feel AJ was one of the most complete players to ever don a stags uniform, and I think he is often overlooked because he did everything well and but did not put up the stats of a guy that does only one thing exceptionally well.
Its Photo shoot day today. Amadou(21) and Kirkland(0) look the same size. Newcomer guards look to be built strong like KJ.... Segura(1), Harper(4), Threatt(5). Chappell(24) looks like he has been working out hard. And my guess is Degnan is bigger than Amadou/Kirkland, but shorter than Malcolm. I hear Degnan has the skills, I wonder if he is going to have the strength to compete right away at Division I

It looks as though Steve Smith is more of a PF in this Photo. IMO, he has a better chance of succeeding as a Mike Evanovich shooter type as a 6-8 or 6-9 PF than becoming a SF. If SS is being covered by a PF he will be able to get himself open a lot easier, than if he is covered by a Quick SF/3G. But for SS to be a PF he has to improve his rebounding and defense..... exactly what the Big "E" had to do.
And Matt Hill(33) looks to be 6-8, not 6-6. He is another Football Player, along with Threatt and Harper

Impressed by the big men. Looks like a formidable front court. Bunch of NBA type bodies, and hopefully skill-level as well.
The guards on the other hand. Looks like DNT could be missed more than ever.
I don't want to jump to conclusions without seeing any minutes played, but with the exception of Degnan, do the other newcomers appear to be a tad.... soft?
Hoping for the best! If these big guys are athletic and nimble, this could be a solid team as they gain more experience. Look forward to seeing them play.
No doubt that Chappell and Smith hit the weights. Was KJ always that thick? Really looking forward to what Threatt can do with Stevie and Nelson behind him.
I think Degnan will have immediate impact. Lots of competition at 4/5.
