Wow, this is huge news for the Stags considering they are the first opponent of Central. Sounds like he won't play in that game. Taking a 20PPG scorer out of the lineup has to really hurt the Devils. Even if he eventually does play in the game but misses a lot of practice time, that has to hurt his timing and chemistry with his team, right? But through this all I am not glowing with happiness that something like this has happened. For indeed it is a shame that someone with this much talent has to get in trouble and hurt not only his teammates but also possibly his future somewhat given that he would certainly be a pro prospect somewhere in the world after graduation. But it is what it is I guess.

If the allegations are true, it's horrible for his girlfriend and sad that he would do what is alleged. Given the current spotlight on abuse/domestic violence, he could very well get kicked off the team or even out of school if the allegations prove true.
Basketball-wise, CCSU was returning all five starters and was picked 2nd at last week's NEC Media Day. I would think they would be a favorite to beat Fairfield on a neutral court. Without him, you could argue that Fairfield should be the favorite.

Danny, you bring up point I failed to mention, that of course being the most unfortunate thing regarding this story about the abuse of his girlfriend IF this is true. But regarding the basketball aspect, yes Central was returning all 5 starters from a team that some picked high in the league. However not all publications agreed. For example Blue Ribbon picked them for 7th. And they are from a league that only had an RPI of 25th last season. And finally, they only won 11 games last year. So I think the Stags would have been a favorite anyway. They still have to win the game on the court of course. But really this game is actually one of those that they should win and quite frankly better if they don't want to anger a lot of people who want to see a reason for hope and optimism for this season.

I understand your points but still disagree that Fairfield would have been a favorite (and I am a Fairfield fan to be clear), but it's probably a moot point at this stage because I'll be very surprised if Vinales plays given the allegation against him. It will still be interesting to see what the line is assuming he doesn't play.
We'll see how this plays out in the next few weeks. From a strictly basketball point of view, I'm hoping CCSU has Vinales available on the 14th --- I'd rather see how we do against a veteran NEC team than against one without its star player. But I realize there's far more important issues to be straightened out in this situation in the next few days than anything basketball related.
