Nothing wrong here. A big name in coaching circles and a guy with broad experience. I believe some have been clamoring for just this kind of move. I assume he will have a great deal to say and his words will carry some weight. I'm not sure if he will be evaluating Syd since it appears they are fairly close.
So, the Princeton grad President hires a Princeton coach, very successful in his Princeton job, not no so much at his non Ivy stop, to help a Princeton coach, very successful in his Princeton job, not so much at his non Ivy stop. Seems logical.
Well, I'm going to take this as a positive. It can't hurt to get the opinions, thoughts and suggestions of a coach with this level of experience. However, I wonder, how we can afford this move. If we can pay for another coach, seems we have the resources to put some sort of buy out together.
My guess would be that Syd is paying him personally.
Well, I would hope this is the case, but given the ineptitude I see around me I also kind of doubt that is what is really happening. The details of this arrangement will probably never be released either way, so we will be left wondering.
If the university is paying for this they are look for a "cheap fix" to the Sydney contract problem and continuity issue of not having to fire and rebuild again.
Who knows, maybe Gene has had the "tough" conversation with Syd already and this a compromise coming from money already committed in his contract.
When private corporations are in trouble, they bring in the consultants.
Either way, this demonstrates that Syd, Tony, Martin and Tyson have no idea what to do. That would say to me, you hired the wrong guys. This is x's, o's and recruiting, not rocket science.
