As I mentioned earlier, one important SIGNAL from this move is that the STAG ADMINISTRATION is not happy/satisfied and it is committed to this program and making it successful (good sign for all us die hards)!
But, another GREAT SIGNAL is that Sydney is eating some humble pie, admitting he does not have all the answers, and is doing something about it. I RESPECT that.
I think GREAT, CONFIDENT coaches admit that they don't have all the answers or better yet, take the blame every once in a while.
This is something that we have not seen. This is a step in the right direction.
This idea of 3 guards is incredible. It hurts offense, defense, rebounding. And we only have ONE good guard! Circle March 10 on your calendar.
Bum, it seems our opponents have no problems playing 3 guards..... so why can't we? Matter of fact, its when they play 3 or 4 guards is when they do seem to go on a run. Teams that play 3 guards, make themselves a lot quicker. If you feel that we have enough quickness on the team, then I think we are watching a different game.
I love a three guard offense. But not with this team. We're having trouble fielding a two guard offense. Seriously, what three guards would you play? And who would you sit so the three guard offense could happen, Marcus Gilbert or Kirkland?
I like 3 guards and Mike could play with Marcus. Mike is not great inside on D. But I think that's a way to go with Amadou out. We just need Rome to play like he did in first half at Iona.
The key benefit out of a 3 guard line-up is that we would be Quicker. It would also take Marcus out of the 3 position, where he is currently being guarded by a quick player. I would rather see him at the PF, being guarded by a slower guy. A 3-guard line-up is not a panacea, but it is something we do not utilize enough, especially when our opponents go with a quick line-up. If we want more movement, better movement, more fast breaks, more effective presses,, passing and ballhandling then that comes with quickness...... not with Big slow rebounders. I feel quickness and guards are important in basketball.
But, I do agree that we do not have the proper number of guards to make this a full time strategy.
BTW, we have only one player on this team between the heights of 6-3 to 6-6 (Marcus). Most MAAC teams are loaded with players of that height. Is that an advantage or disadvantage for us?

If we want more movement, better movement, more fast breaks, more effective presses, passing and ballhandling ...that come with quickness then Sidney needs to endorse this.

I just hope this Carmody guy has enough sense to play Marcus, Nelson and Smith at the same time---Smith needs more PT, so does Malcolm---I remember my high school coach saying something profound--YOU CAN'T COACH HEIGHT--when someone is 7' in this league with a huge wing span, you got to play him till he drops. and improves---I maybe the only one on this board who believes this but I do believe with PT and patience Malcolm could be a force in this conference---so I hope Carmody sees the value of giving both Smith and Malcolm a long look see--it can only be a pleasant surprise if I am right--heck we have only won 6 games--how could it hurt???

Exactly right. I would love to see Tyler, Marcus, Smitty, Kirk, and Amadou/Malcolm on the court at the same time in some situations. Mark of a good coaching staff is the ability to make strategic substitutions based on the flow of the game instead some preconceived substitutional pattern. the Cooley regime was good at that.
