Rick Barnes is not expected to return as head coach of the Texas men’s basketball team, multiple sources told NBCSports.com.
Barnes met with athletic director Steve Patterson, who told him that he needs to replace his coaching staff or risk being let go, sources confirmed to NBCSports.com. Barnes is not expected to meet those demands.
All three members of Barnes’ coaching staff have been a part of the program for a long time. Russell Springman has been with the team since 2001. Rob Lanier coached with Barnes from 1999-2001, and then came back to Texas in 2011. Chris Ogden played for Barnes before joining the Texas staff in 2008.
I don't think any comment is needed...

I agree 100%. Plenty of opportunity for Syd to move on and up - Texas, Alabama, St. John's...hell, even Fordham. Their gain and our loss. What would we do?!

Administrations that take college BB seriously get rid of bad coaches---but not us, we keep bad coaches-----no serious school that respects college BB would keep SJ---are AD is a joke
Barnes confirmed Patterson told him a few days ago he had to fire staff or be fired himself. That ultimatum was leaked to the media Thursday, publicly turning up the pressure on Barnes and his assistants. Barnes blamed the leaks on the athletic department but didn't name any individuals behind them.
"I was shocked," by the leaks, Barnes said. "I couldn't do that. That would be me saying this is about me. I've been carried by a lot of people here. We're in this together."
Barnes said his staff offered to quit but he refused to let them.
