Manhattan's transfer Ashton Pankey had his hardship waiver denied. This is a major blow to the Jaspers, and puts them around a 3-4 ranking in the MAAC. With Pankey, I had Manhattan as #1. The 6-9 240lb center will have to sit out a year, but by that time George Beamon will be gone from the Jaspers. Manhattan will appeal. www.nydailynews.com/blogs/basketcase/2012/10/a-waiver-win-for-iona-not-for-manhattanIona had their transfer waiver accepted for Sledge. Amazing how sucessful Iona is at this. Sledge is a speady PG who pushes the action with an aggresive style of play. His shooting and turnovers could be questioned, but his style of play fits perfectly for Iona.

I know we dont have full details but the inconsistencies must be very frustrating for the coaches and players. System is broken, they need to fix it.
I know we benefit from this, but i still will never understand the NCAA's reasoning for punishing a student for transferring.

If kids didn't have to sit out a year, you would have ridiculous movement of players every year. And of course we know all coaches are clean and would never tamper with the system to get kids to transfer. ; ) I think the one year rule is right and should have no exceptions. If someone needs to transfer closer to home, the year off will give them time to tend to their family or personal issues, if it is IN FACT a family hardship. I'm sure MoMo had lots of time with his grandmother after practice, games, travel, hanging out with the guys and even study time. Take the year off basketball, go to school, and tend to what matters in life if it is in fact, a REAL hardship.

Can't even begin to understand these hardship waivers. Makes no sense at all why some are granted and others are not. But obviously it's great for Iona, not so much for Manhattan. With Sledge eligible, MoMo Jones can now play the majority of his minutes at two guard where he is much more effective. Move the Gaels up another notch.

Jay Bilas รพ@JayBilas Bummer Maryland's Dez Wells denied immediate eligibility. Too bad he doesn't have a relative with the sniffles or didn't play for his dad.
