I wouldn't quite characterize the Alvarez loss as if he's any random 27% 3pt shooting frosh PG.
However.. as with other significant transfers the Stags have seen... you get to replace them and there are a lot of minutes and a big role that might be attractive to another talent.
Alvarez may have experienced some rocky going at times this year, but it was due to the expectations for him that had him trying too hard. No doubt in my mind that in time he would have developed into one of the better guards to play for us. This outcome is not a surprise. Typical Fairfield U bad luck!

I know there are a lot of people who think this is the sky falling. But I was not that impressed with him .. was not a good shooter , FT shooter and was always whining ... I say good bye , was overrated as a 3 type prospect ... this guy was leaving no matter if SJ stayed or left.. good bye

When someone puts there name in the transfer portal, my understanding is that doesn't mean they have to transfer. It just means they are able to transfer. Generally players don't put there name in unless they intend to go.
Coaching changes spark transfers. If we lose a couple, there is an opportunity to reel in a couple replacements who are as good or better.
If it’s true, I think Alvarez is making a big mistake because he could be a huge part of exciting Stags transformation under Young. Nothing can dampen my new enthusiasm. Farewell Syd...that’s the best news
Hate to see him go! However not unexpected. Perhaps more to follow? My take is if a player does not want to be part of the rebuilding and does not see the value of a Fairfield education then sayonara! Best of luck to him.
I hope Alvarez rethinks his options as he could be passing up a FREE quarter million dollar Fairfield University education at the #1 school in the North Region.
