Quinnipiac 8-3 in the top of the third. Stags got off to a fast start with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first until Quinnipiac exploded for 5 runs in the top of the second with a 3 RBI homerun and 3 more runs in the third. Could be a long day for the Stags.

Quinnipiac 15-11 for the win but the Stags battled back after being down by 6 runs (12-6) in the sixth. Quinnipiac with 17 hits including 2 home runs and 5 doubles Stags with 17 hits including 1 home run and 3 doubles but 3 errors. Stags did score 4 runs in the final 3 innings and held Quinnipiac scoreless in the final 2 innings. Jack Gethings goes (0-4) in the second game of the doubleheader. Box Score:fairfieldstags.com/boxscore.aspx?path=baseball&id=9477A sweep of Quinnipiac would have been nice and much needed for the standings. However, the #5 Stags (15-9)(30-21) do take two out of the three games against what was the #1 team in the MAAC on Friday. As Meatloaf sang way back when... Overall a nice series against Quinnipiac. However by losing just the one game, unfortunately the ability to move up into one of the top two coveted spots in the MAAC tournament has gone by the boards I'm afraid. When all the results are in by tomorrow it's possible mathematically they will still have a chance. But having said that, that chance would be close to zero because too many things would have to happen a certain way for that to happen.
Great though to finally have a few things come together which helped bring out a large and enthusiastic crowd. Nice (finally) weather along with two local rivals plus the fact the seniors were being honored did the trick.
Three non-league away games next week, then the tourney in two weeks. In baseball anything can happen, and unlike hoops where it seems EVERYONE knows Iona is going to win, at least recently, that is not the case at all in this sport. So I hope the (semi) momentum from this series will carry over into the remaining parts of this season.
