Money and man power well spent? National exposure? Hopefully at least some signage that ESPNU viewers will know that Fairfield Unibersity is hosting the Quarterfinal Round games? Hofstra is hosting the other Quarterfinal Round games in Hempstead. Long Island on their campus while Fairfield is "hosting" the games not in Rafferty Stadium but 68 miles away in East Hartford at the home of UCONN Football. Fairfield University is proud to host the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship Quarterfinals, this Sunday, May 19, at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. The doubleheader, which will air live on ESPNU, features top-seed Penn State challenging eighth-seeded Loyola at noon followed by an Ivy League Championship rematch with fourth-seeded Penn meeting fifth-seeded Yale – the defending National Champions – at 2:30 p.m. fairfieldstags.com/news/2019/5/13/fairfield-university-hosts-ncaa-division-i-mens-lacrosse-quarterfinals-this-sunday-at-pratt-whitney-stadium.aspxwww.ncaa.com/tickets/lacrosse-men/d1

Yale is the defending Men's Lacrosse NCAA Division 1 National Champions with an endowment of $29.4 billion and they aren't hosting the Quarterfinal Round in New Haven or even East Hartford.
If Fairfield Athletics has all this extra money and manpower to "host" this event then rather put it towards building the new Alumni Hall where it will actually benefit Fairfield University. Priorities!

Hosting one of these events should be a combination of the school and the local community (which stands to benefit the most). I don't know how FU benefits other that hearing that its an honor to host such and event. This was committed to under Gene not Paul - I haven't heard if FU is trying for more events - FU actively pursued under Gene and maybe lack of current pursuit tells us what we need to know.

Rentschler Field is a municipal stadium owned by the State of Connecticut. Fairfield University is set to host the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championships for Divisions I, II and III at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.
Nobody here actually knows the costs involved this year and then in 2021 and 2022. However, if "hosting" is not too expensive or a burden to the Stag Athletic Department staff then fine but is it really the best way to spend the athletic budget not on Stag student-athletes or a Stag athletic program or not even on campus in Rafferty Stadium?

I don't feel like I know enough about deal to host to be positive or negative. I wish the good/bad was defined. What I do know is that Rentschler Field is a long way from Fairfield University -- hence my pointing out that there are 6 D1 schools with Lax teams that are closer, not to mention UConn (we hosted a D1 men's hockey regional at WBA even though we don't have a D1 men's hockey team). I would certainly hope that we are not paying for the right to play host. I'm guessing we must help staff the event, which in and of itself could be a significant expense in time/money, particularly given the distance. Now if the tourney was at Rafferty Stadium, I could see far more value in getting a chance to show off our facility to the Lax community, including potential recruits who might want to play at Rafferty themselves some day. But I am assuming Rafferty is not big enough to host such an event.

The Fairfield F is on the natural grass pitch at the 38,066 seat Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut (just off I-84). Will anyone know that the F is for Fairfield University? The Hartford Courant's article today never mentions the host school Fairfield University in "NCAA lacrosse comes to Rentschler Field: All you need to know including numerous Connecticut connections"www.courant.com/sports/college/hc-sp-clb-college-ncaa-lacrosse-penn-20190519-20190518-oj7tdhmumvetpol6qr63aobgum-story.htmlPenn State University (15-1) vs. Loyola University Maryland (12-4) Sunday, May 19 at Noon on ESPNU University of Pennsylvania (12-3) vs. Yale University (13-3) Sunday, May 19 at 2:30 PM on ESPNU

Watching lax on the “ U “ the big “ F” is very prevalent in the picture. However I bet almost no one knows it means Fairfileld.

#1 Penn State 21-14 over #6 Loyola in the first quarterfinal game after Loyola had led 6-3. I doubt too that anyone knows what the big red F is for on the field today.

What is the stags branding these days? Seems the “ Stag in motion” has given way to the stylized capital “F”. I prefer the Stag in motion. I understand the Prez prefers the stylized capital “F” ala his alma mater Yale and their “Y”.

I agree. WTF is just a big red F supposed to mean to most people? Fairfield University is not Harvard, Yale or Princeton. IMO, the stylized F and the Stag mascot make much more sense for the branding of the Fairfield Stags.

#2 Yale 19-18 over #3 PENN in overtime in the second quarterfinal game. 8,568 fans for both games at Rentschler Field and 8,017 at Hofstra for the other two quarterfinal games. "Today was an exceptional day for the sport of lacrosse. Four of the top programs in the country showcased their extraordinary talents in front of a high-energy crowd that got more than their money's worth," said Fairfield Director of Athletics Paul Schlickmann. "I am very proud of our staff and the phenomenal job they did to make this event an operational success, and I am grateful for the collaborative partnership with Chris Lawrence and his staff at Pratt & Whitney Stadium. This was a great vehicle for us to tell the Fairfield University story, promote a sport that is very important to Stags Athletics, and provide all of the participants with a first-class experience. We look forward to the next chapters when we host the National Championships in 2021 and 2022."Not sure how hosting today was "a great vehicle to tell the Fairfield University story" and to whom?

When the stags are playing in the NCAA quarterfinals and not hosting it is what I look forward too.
