The Fairfield University women's soccer team earned 18 postseason Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) awards, announced Thursday. Headlining the Stag award winner was Allison Walsh (Westport, Conn.), who was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Eighth year head coach Jim O'Brien was also honored by the league's head coaches as the Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year.
It is the first MAAC Coach of the Year award for O'Brien, the fourth for Fairfield, who led the Stags to their seventh MAAC Regular Season crown, and first since 2002, with an 8-1-0 league record. Fairfield reached double-digits in wins for the fourth time under O'Brien, going 11-5-2 during the regular season, the most wins since the 2008 squad captured 15 victories and the MAAC Tournament title. That season he was named the NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year. It is O'Brien's second conference coach of the year award, earning the accolade in 2000 from the Northeast-10 Conference, the same year he was named the NSCAA Division II New England Region Coach of the Year.
Walsh was one of three members of the Stags senior class that earned First Team All-MAAC accolades, with Lauren Reilly (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Nikki Stanton (Bainbridge, Wash.) being selected to the team in the midfield. Megan O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.), defense, and Erin Pettersen (Massapequa, N.Y.), forward, were both named to the All-MAAC Second Team and Emily Wieczorek (West Hartford, Conn.) was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team in the midfield.
