Not illness. Disagreement over direction, state of program
Well a "source close to the program" told me its not about illness and that it wasn't Jay's decision. Of course this is all hearsay, so take it with a grain of salt. But the report is there was an "incident" that led to the this announcement.

If your information is correct, I find it strange that it would boil over to the point that Jay would walk away three weeks before the season starts. Jay’s mother passed away a few weeks ago. With all the roster turnover this offseason, I question the wisdom of trying to get the head coach to alter how he wanted the team to play this season. Our situation was difficult enough with no Yetna for probably the first two months and unknown as to what he’d be like when (if) Yetna started playing. I would think the only two who could have such a strong effect on Jay that he and Dougher would leave would be Schlickmann and/or Nemec. A really bizarre time to force the issue, if in fact what you stated is the reason for the change. Should be interesting to see who the emergency assistant coach hire will be.

How long before we hear the calls to bring back mitch Generally in this situation a former head coach who is immediately available it tapped. A former player like Jesus could also be an option. There are not always ideal choices sitting on the sidelines so a person who is in some respects a known quantity is often looked to. Perhaps a former Casey associate would be tapped.
Rumor mill swirling about Costa Rica being the root of all the issues.
Acknowledging you’re discussing a rumor, but can you state some details —- from what you’ve written it’s impossible to know what the rumor mill is claiming. It’s like saying the rumor mill is swirling that the King of England is the root of the issues with the American Revolution in the 1770s. Too broad a statement to really be informative.
I thought Masiello wanted a contract extension. I find it difficult to believe Jay was demanding a contract extension when he had three seasons remaining on his contract.
