The Stags shutout Quinnipiac 2 to 0 and end the season on a three game winning streak. And that included a victory over #1 Iona. It was cold out there and that kept attendance down.. But we diehards left quite satisfied with the win.

"We dominated position and created a lot of chances for the majority of the first half," Head Coach Carl Rees. "The team was tested this season and I think they passed the test in terms of attitude, courage, and honor. All those are traits that we encourage and that showed during the preparation for tonight's match. They wanted to be the better group and I thought we were tonight."Despite the cold weather, 462 fans at the game. A quick review of the roster shows 50% of the roster made up of frosh/ Soph. So perhaps the win streak does reflect that young players gained experience as the season progressed. Perhaps this speaks favorably for next season.

^I just looked at the roster myself and saw 10 of the 26 players are listed as either graduate student or senior so I guess weβd need someone who followed the team closely all season to let us know if the 3 game winning streak to end the season was the result of underclassmen playing key roles that theyβre likely to build upon next year or simply the result of some outstanding play by team members who wonβt be eligible next year.

I attended all of the home games this season since my grandson is a sophomore defender for the team. As others have noted the team is a mixture of underclassmen, seniors and graduate students. More than half the team is comprised of foreign players and those players had significant roles. Other teams also depend on foreign players. But the underclassmen were important contributors for us, so I hope that Fairfield can mprove. My opinion is that we lost some games that I thought that we could win, but on the other hand we won others that we might have lost. One or two more wins and we qualify for the playoffs. I believe that we have a good nucleus of returning players.
