Coach Somera was robbed when she did not get the coach of the year award in the MAAC. I don't know who determines the award, but they must be IDIOTS.
The stags coach is new to the program and must replace Todd Kress who was just an outstanding coach at FF. A tough act to follow. She must replace 1/2 of the team who left after last year because of graduation or because of transfer. Her team is picked 3rd in the preseason coaches' poll but she coaches her team to a tournament win/NCAA bid, a first-place finish in the conference, a 22-6 overall record, 16-2 in the MAAC, 5-3 O/O/C and finishes the season with 7 straight wins. Four players on the 1st and 2nd all MAAC teams and 1 player on all rookie team. Certainly, a resume for Coach of the year. BUT NO not in the MAAC, Coach of the year goes to the Manhattan College coach whose team finishes 8th out of 10 team in conference play and only finishes 8th because Siena and St Petes teams are so putrid winning only two matches between them. Overall record 9-22, 1-8 O/O/C, loser of their last 5 matches and only one player on all MAAC teams. Makes no sense to me. Maybe the Manhattan AD, picks Coach of the year?

Odd pick - maybe there’s a backstory - that being said, I think she’s happier with the championship than the individual accolade.

I asked the new MAAC commissioner ( via email) what was the methodology used to determine the VB coach of the year in the MAAC because it is not logical that Coach Somera did not get the honor. I did not have an expectation he would answer but thought I would try to get answer anyway. After more then two weeks waiting for an answer the commish fulfilled my expectation and has not answered

74, Try Zach to see if he can answer your question. Apparently the new MAAC Commissioner is too busy looking to poach a few more NEC teams to join the MAAC/NEC 2.0.

‘73, I did not email Zack to get an answer. However, I did contact a very knowledgeable person about how the VB coach of the year was chosen. It is simply a vote by the MAAC coaches on which peer should win the Coach of the year. I just do not understand how knowledgeable coaches did not vote for Coach Somera. Her resume this year was outstanding. Has to be jealousy.

I'd be embarrassed accepting the award after looking at Somera's first year accomplishment. She not only got replacement players, she made them a championship team. Totally absurd.
