While many of us are bundling up and keeping the cold weather at bay, the Fairfield University Swimming and Diving teams will be basking in the sunshine of Hawaii. The Stags will spend the better part of a week in the Aloha State, training in an outdoor facility in addition to competing against the University of Hawaii on January 2. "We are going to arrive on Wednesday (December 27) and start the next day with a team dry land to get acclimated after the flight," Head Coach Jacy Dyer said. "From there, we will have a morning and an afternoon practice and then do some excursions later the day. Each day we are going to try and do something that helps us learn about and enjoy Hawaii."In addition to being outside rather than indoors, the teams will experience a different type of pool while in Hawaii. The Stags will be working out in a 50-meter pool which rather than the 25-yard pool in which the teams typically trains. "Our international student-athletes are really excited but a lot of others are a little nervous," Dyer said. "I am excited to so some long-course training because it helps you find a rhythm and it's really good for training in general. We have some swimmers who never done long-course before so it will be a new experience. Long course has less walls and detail work so you it is more about your swimming. On the other hand, short course emphasizes details like turns and underwater skills."
