Not sure if this has happened recently in a NCAA game. Ref called basket good so one foul shot. Shooter misses, every one watches the ball bounce on the floor then Mitchell for Kentucky flicks it toward the ref— thinking the foul shooter is going to get another shot. Mitchell is grad student Tre Mitchell who played his first two seasons at UMass. His freshman season UMass beat us 62-60 at WBA.
I am, the last four at large and the four lowest ranked 16s
Yeah it's always been this way ever since they expanded the field to 68 a decade or so ago. Think of it this way: if they didn't have a game each night between well-known at large schools as part of a double-header, the arena at Dayton wouldn't be full of people as is currently the case each year. Wagner, Texas Southern, Florida A&M and even Siena and Iona from the MAAC in years past don't move the needle as far as putting fannies in the seats. Therefore I'm sure that was part of the thought behind the process of how this aspect of the tournament was put together at that time. One of the (few) good moves by the NCAA that actually made sense IMO.
St Peters is a bad representative because their offense is so poor. Their rock fight defense isn't gonna work against a power 5 team
Say what? An Elite 8 appearance and this year’s deserved Champs and they’re a bad representative? Fairfield should aspire to be a bad representative.
Yeah it'd surely be nice to see how good a representative the Stags could be one of these years, wouldn't it? Anyway, one game and performance good or bad shouldn't define how deserving a certain team is once they make the Dance. The fact is because season long performance goes out the window in favor of who wins 3 or 4 games in March very often leads to less than the best rep from the small D-1 leagues whether we like it or not. And as far as the Peacocks specifically are concerned, two years ago when they made their magic run, basically their "rock fight" defense, low scoring offense and even their record near the end of the season were very similar to what it is this year. Therefore although the results have been very different between the two editions of the team, them being the school to carry the MAAC banner was earned on the court and should be respected I think. With "March Madness" in full bloom, you never know what you're going to get, right?

The point made here by stags 10 is a good one. It parallels the comments made by the announcers yesterday during St. Petes appearance in the NCAA. The peacocks good defense can keep them in a game against a mid major because their offense is suspect. However, vs a power 5 conference with high powered offense you need more than just defense. U need a solid offense that can put up points. If I remember St. Petes run to the elite 8 years ago was more the result of their very good guards being able to shoot from outside and score points rather than their defense.

I really thought this was the year we were built to win a game in the NCAA tournament. We had two very high percentage three point shooters in Fields and Goodine. High percentage three point shooters who go off and have a great game seem to be the key element in nearly every big upset. Jack Gohlke was 50% from deep last night. That's why Oakland won. Fields and Goodine were both capability of having that kind of night. Real missed opportunity for the program this season. Hoping we can salvage something with a run in the CBI.
Well Yale is playing well against Auburn right now early in the 2nd half. The Bulldogs have a very nice program, they already have an NCAA victory over Baylor a few years back. Maybe this can be Fairfield next year....

It’s not just coaching X’s and O’s and recruiting best available anymore, coaches will have to skillfully evaluate prospects’ strengths relative to current roster weaknesses to find the right “ingredients” to create a winner. I can envision a whole new staff job being created just to keep up with the comings and goings of players, monitoring likely transfers as the season unfolds, and making the right offers. EVERY YEAR
