1. With Wagner’s win last night and FDU’s two wins last year, the NEC is picking up more NCAA units (the term the NCAA uses for monetary compensation for each game appearance) than many one bid leagues that lose their opening round NCAA game.
2. BC beat Providence in the NIT game played at Providence. The Big East went 0-3 in NIT games last night. Xavier and Butler also lost. Seton Hall and Villanova play tonight in the NIT.
3. Not sure what the future of the NIT is, but the NCAA change to guarantee 2 power conference spots and not guarantee a NIT bid to regular season champions of midmajor conferences which didn’t win their conference tournament blew up a bit as only one PAC-12 (Utah) accepted a NIT bid. The NIT selection committee was required to offer the 2nd PAC-12 spot to each remaining PAC-12 team based on descending NET ranking. Every other PAC-12 team turned down the NIT offer.
Although we have more NIT appearances than either Kansas or UCLA, I doubt that it troubles those schools much considering they’re on a much higher tier than us for NCAA appearances.
Just expand the NCAAT(96?), get rid of the NIT, and make a hard and fast rule no team below .500 in conference can go. I don't care if you have 12 Q1 wins or whatever... if you're 8-10 in conference - go home and get better. Or - you can chain the tournaments together like I've suggested. Anything but the current setup.

Automatis will go before they penalize power 5 conferences. Pitino wants the old boy coaches network to have a say:influence so schools like his get more of the benefit of the doubt
The NIT is the consolation prize that allows them to exclude undeserving power 5 schools.
They need to fix the portal dates and penalize schools that back out of the nit. Covid year going away helps.
In the first post in this thread, St. Bonaventure is listed among the teams that declined a NIT offer. Today, people associated with St. Bonaventure claim they did not turn down an invitation. Here’s St. Bonaventure’s Director of Athletics statement which I think is supposed to clear things up.
To me, this statement is very similar to me saying I didn’t turn down a date for Saturday with Margot Robbie. I simply called her Tuesday afternoon and left a message that with my knee acting up and the weather forecast for the weekend—- she might want to consider other options for Saturday. 😁
Edit: And here’s a reaction from a Bonnie’s fan to Manhertz’ statement:
Can someone explain how the NCAA determines the eight teams that are chosen to play in the PIG in Dayton? It makes sense that two games are comprised of four teams seeded 16th. However, the other four teams in Dayton were seeded 1Oth. Why aren’t the other teams in Dayton seeded 15th?

The last four at large teams are sent to Dayton, whatever their seed is.
