Was anyone aware of a policy that all cars parking on campus must have a either a temporary guest pass or a specific pass based on your university affiliation?
I found out the hard way after the Yale game today when I found a $60 parking ticket on my car for not having a "registered vehicle". (It was squashed upon my inquiry at the public safety office).
Been parking on campus for years, multiple times a week and never had any issues.
Upon investigation with public safety, it appears they inconsistently have enforced parking rules but as parking becomes more of an issue (if you've been on campus on a busy day you will understand), it seems there will be more attention paid to who is parking and where, especially during class hours.
Not sure after hours and on weekends this will be as big an issue. Also wonder how folks coming on campus for sporting and other events will be aware of this. If they are going to start enforcing this, they really need to do a better job of posting the need for a parking pass.
What I was told by FU Public Safety:
- Secure a temporary parking pass when entering campus at the entry gate or at the PS office.
OR
- If you are an alum, you can secure an annual pass by applying for a green "graduate" parking pass online. But, you need to have a Student ID or Stag Card. Never knew Alums can get a Stag Card for identification for things like parking privileges. I was told to go to Barone lower level to the Stag Card office to get one and enter that number on the parking application. fairfield.nsolutions.com/applicants/sign_in
Not sure what the fee for this pass is but securing the daily temporary would avoid this.
It will be interesting to see how this shakes out going forward or if this was just a public safety officer having a slow day.
