FRIENDS OF FAIRFIELD BASKETBALL Coach's Update letter from Joe Frager:
November 9, 2012
Dear Friends of Fairfield Basketball:
The start of a season is perhaps the most exciting time of year for coaches, student-athletes, and fans. Each new year brings a sense of opportunity, a chance to set and achieve goals collectively which will lead to a common purpose - a successful season.
Although our season is about to begin, our thoughts are also with our alumni, friends, and fans who suffered any loss from Hurricane Sandy. We pray for your safety and well being as many continue to deal with the hardships brought on by this storm.
I am sure that I speak for our student-athletes when I say success is not something that comes easily. It comes from hard work and discipline right from the start, not just in January or February. It comes from a desire and a dedication to be the best.
From what I have seen so far, our student-athletes have all of those qualities and exhibit them each time they come to the gym. They have proven that they are willing to give everything they have whenever they are on the court, knowing that what they do now will help them achieve greatness in March.
Leadership also plays a role in being successful, something that I see every day from our seniors. Katelyn Linney, Brittany MacFarlane, and Laura Vetra have set the tone for this year through their example in the classroom, in the weight room, and on the court. These three student-athletes offer our freshmen, sophomores, and juniors role models to emulate as they progress through their collegiate careers.
We will certainly need that leadership from start to finish this year as our schedule could be one of the most difficult in school history. Our non-conference season has us playing three teams which advanced to the NCAA tournament and features road games against the University of Florida and Iowa State University. We will also play a strong home schedule in 2012-13 which includes a November 20 match up with St. Bonaventure at Alumni Hall.
I hope you will come out and support us at all of our home games, starting with the home opener on November 13 against Brown University. Our students showed their support on October 12 when they filled Alumni Hall for Red Sea Madness, reminding us what an advantage we have when the stands are filled to capacity. We appreciate all who come out and cheer for our student-athletes and hope the Red Sea continues to swell as the season continues.
Thank you again for your loyalty and for being true friends of our program. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming game.
Sincerely,
Joseph Frager,
Head Women's Basketball Coach
