Segura has offers from Liberty, Abilene Christian, Lehigh, Jacksonville, Tulane, New Hampshire, Northwestern State, Santa Clara, Weber State, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, and Long Island-Brooklyn. According to MaxPreps, he averaged 14 points, 2.6 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game during his junior season while shooting 47% from the field.
It would be great if one of these upcoming visits led to a verbal....wouldn't be surprised if a few other points are ready to visit even if their names haven't appeared on popular recruiting sites.
I am unaware of Stevie Johnston getting 1 of the 2 open scholarships for 2013. The only downside is that if we want to pick-up 2 Transfers at Mid-Season, then we could only take 1.
Recruiting is never done. We can still use a Big Strong frontcourt player .... with powerfull hind quarters. A bigger version of Shannon Bowman. Plus we still have 1 or 2 scholarships available for 2013.... in case there is some transfers available in December.
Segura looks like a very solid get....nice to see us going against a school like Santa Clara from a quality mid-major conference and getting a player who will be coming a long way from home. Glad to see our staff reaching far for players. This fills a big need on the roster and really closes the book for us for a while on guards. Only gap in lineup, as JoeStag has noted, is a space eater underneath.

Well it now appears as though Sydney has his basic cast of characters who will be in charge of continuing (and improving on) the success of the past few years. So I am excited to see what happens in the future. As far as this young man in particular, as with all new recruits I am going to take a wait and see attitude until I see him play. And yes you are right (stagparty) in that the Youtubes always show only the good plays. But he does look good on the tapes, especially in the art of finding the open man. But when a new kid comes on board I am always interested in who are some of the other schools that were trying to get him. In this case I see a lot of universities from all over the country, all mid majors, some normally very successful, and some not so much. But I do like the fact that one of these schools is Weber State, a program that just as recently as 2012 graduated a great PG named Damien Lillard who became a high draft pick in the NBA, and who had a great rookie season with the Portland Trailblazers. Obviously however this really doesn't mean that much in the long run as to how Segura will do as a Fairfield Stag. That will be up to Rome and how Sydney coaches him.
