Today's game will be the first time Penn and Fairfield have ever faced each other. I hope Penn's playing rotation is as short as ours and our player's legs are fresher than theirs.
We need to get every OOC win we possibly can, especially since we don't know who or where the next opponents are with this NIT setup.
- The title of this story tells it all. I thought we had great execution in the first half and even to start the 2nd half, we hade some good open looks. But, missing those open looks gave Virginia the lead. We then started to press a little in our offense, and Virginia players and crowd became more confident.
- Matthews only played 4:30 in the 2nd half. The the announcers say why. He was a +4 in the first half and I thought he played well and was playing like a 6-7 player. Barrow stuggled inside as he has done in the past against 6-8 BCS forwards...... that should not happen in the MAAC.
- I thought our defense was good, except when Virginia went with their 6-6 guards and posted us up. But we adjusted.
- I like that Wade was more aggressive, we just need Nickerson to be the same.
- I like that we have 3 guys on the perimeter..... Needham, Wade and Mikulic. Need Jenkins to join that goup off the bench. I saw a little improvement yesterday, but its just going to take time with him. I am confident he will be very good.
- Mikulic exceeded expectations again. And another double double for Mikumadou 17pts, 10rebs, 3 blocks.
Beat Penn today. Its a must game, and it should be a Program win.
Announcers didn't say anything about Matthews. I was wondering the same thing.
We have to get a bit more balance between our outside game and interior game. I don't think we scored more than a handful of baskets in the paint. Easier said than done against an ACC team.

I too was perplexed by the lack of playing time for Matthews in the second half. The bigger VA guards upped there defensive intensity in the second half leaving Wade and Needham with little opportunity to shoot the ball. I was waiting for Coach to make an adjustment that never came. In this particular game, having both Wade and Needham on the court at the same time was huge disadvantage leading to many forced shots late in the game. I actually was thinking Gilbert might have helped offensively and might have been perfect defensively to deal with Harris.
