People were saying the same thing about Lincoln and that he was an "absolute steal" according to one recruiting pundit that could have gone A10. Now I believe Lincoln will be a very nice player in time and will certainly give us some highlight material before he is done, but, to say that he was an absolute steal is ridiculous. I prefer to wait and see a player take the court in a Stags uniform before I reach any conclusions about a recruit's basketball talent.
Absolutely true that you "never know", but Degnan turned down multiple A-10 offers and chose Fairfield. IMO, he'll succeed because he's not a one dimensional player.
Guys, let's be realistic here. Until the kid puts on the uniform and plays, we have no idea how good he will be. Heck, even then it may take two, three, four years before he fully matures as a player. To go solely on high school ratings and college offers doesn't cut it.
We need look no further than our current roster. We currently have two guys who were good enough to be Big East recruits … and neither gets many minutes. Let's hope both Sean and Malcolm shake off the rust and show us why they were rated so highly ... but so far we haven't seen it.

Sobro, I see that Degnan is coached by Jerry Houston. Is he related to Kevin Houston, the star of Army who was from I believe Pearl River 30 years ago? I thought his dad was named Jerry, but that would make him pretty old now to still be coaching, right?
Jerry Houston is Kevin's brother. Not from Rockland but have loads of friends there, many of them in Pearl River. Have seen him play a bunch of times as I follow the high schools as close as I can.
Looking into the future, this team is going to have a couple of "interesting" roster situations.
First, with the four incoming freshmen + the current scholarship players, the team will have 14 scholarship players on next year's roster. Obviously something will have to give since you are only allowed to have 13. Will one of the incoming frosh go to a prep school? Will someone transfer out?
Second, assuming the 14 gets down to 13, if nothing else changes, we will have 0 scholarships to give out next year, since the current roster has no juniors who will graduate in 2015. Not sure I have ever seen a situation where a team has no scholarships available.

"Will one of the incoming frosh go to prep school? Will someone transfer out?" Great questions Va., and certainly something to watch carefully in the next year Actually there is an instance being played out this year on the national stage where a team was out of scholarships when they found out a very important player had been granted an extra year of eligibility, but because of the surprise ruling something had to give in order to free up a spot for him to return to the squad. I'm speaking of Creighton, where Grant Gibbs was given the okay for another year. The answer to solve the problem? Greg McDermott the coach is paying for his son, the All-American Doug McDermott to play this year as a walk-on. Certainly he is probably the best walk-on ever in the history of college basketball (unless maybe you count Bill Bradley of Princeton in the 1960s). But in any event a highly unusual situation for sure.
Tyler Nelson's wrist has healed and he scored 21 points yesterday on 9 of 13 shooting, and 3 three-pointers.
Nelson played with a soft brace on his left (non-shooting hand). “It felt good,” said Nelson, the only player in tourney history to win MVP honors as a sophomore. “I got the cast off Monday. I saw the doctor (Friday) and finally got cleared. I only fell on it one time (yesterday) and I didn’t get hurt.”

I've seen Degnan play many times. IMO, had he not committed, he would have gone a lot higher. He runs the floor well for a player his size, can score with his back to the basket, and hits threes. Anyone currently on Fairfield's roster that can do that consistently?
Sobro, after my first viewing today, I'd say you are spot on in this assesment. What I really liked about him was that he played totally within the team concept by shooting when he should, and passing when he should. My unofficial count had him about 6-9, maybe 6-10 from the field including three 3s, plus 2-2 from the line, plus many perfectly timed passes for assists. As a person who was sitting next to me and was scouting this game for a local high school told me, the best thing about Degnan is that he makes the other players on his team better. Certainly a great trait to have. It's just one game (the competition was not tremendous), but I like what I saw.
Great news on Degnan. Sounds like exactly what we need.... a Big man who can pass, and we can run the offense thru him like a point forward. And the key words that I like to hear.... "the best thing about Degnan is that he makes the other players on his team better"
For those of you in the Westchester/Rockland County NY area Degnans Pearl River HS team will be playing in the "Slam Dunk" tournament at the Westchester County Center in white plains ny on sunday. I'm planning on making the game to see him play and to see if he really is the player who turned down "multiple A-10 offers" to be Stag.
From Twitter..... Looks like Tyler Nelson had a big night.
Paul Lazdowski@plazdow7h Tyler Nelson w/ 15 of Central's 1st 19 pts. Still can't believe this kid didn't have more D1 offers. Travesty! @shootingtouch @espnbostonhs
HoopDreamsMag.com@hoopdreamsmag7h St. Anthony's has no answer for Fairfield commit Tyler Nelson. Nelson has 6 made field goals in the 1st qtr already #SharpShooter
Brendan C. Hall@bhallespn7h Tyler Nelson was 6-of-8 in the first quarter, including three 3's, and had 15 of Central's first 19 points. Played like a man possessed
From the Boston Herald on Tyler Nelson. I would like to hear how good Tyler Nelson's ballhandling is. Maybe the scout crew can check in?
One player who doesn't lack for experience is All-Scholastic guard Tyler Nelson. Playing with his left hand heavily wrapped due to an injury suffered in a fall league game, the Fairfield-bound shooting guard lived up to the hype, scoring a game-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field. He scored 15 in the fird quarter as the Raiders built up a 19-13 lead and extended it to 23-13 early in the second before the 2-2-1 press employed by St. Anthony's helped turn the game around. "Tyler is still not 100 percent, but he played great," Nault said. "We need to get other guys to help him out."
