Fairfield: Sidney Johnson left his alma mater, Princeton, in a surprise move. Things have not gone well. Luckily for him he's a got a contract that goes through 2019 because his team is 4-17 overall and 1-9 in the MAAC.
The writer forgot to mention the 'postseason success' that was achieved (CIT) and the 'awesome' 22-15 record with star studded Cooley recruits that made it a 'no-brainer' for the 'Princeton' educated FVA and the administration to sign him up after only one full season as head coach.
Providence: The Friars are looking like an NCAA team. They beat Butler and Xavier at home this week and are 11-1 at the Dunk, and they're on a five-game winning streak. Big road trip this week with games at Marquette and DePaul.
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Basketball Coach Sydney Johnson signed a contract extension through the 2018-19 season. The announcement was made by Director of Athletics Eugene P. Doris.
“I am very pleased that the future of Fairfield University basketball will be under the guidance of Sydney Johnson,” Doris said. “Sydney and his coaching staff have proven that they can recruit nationally and internationally by bringing in one of our best freshmen classes this season. Since his arrival, the basketball program has solidified itself as one of the best in the region and continues to compete on a national level.”.....
Gene Doris...............ahhh... the architect of the greatness that currently envelopes Stag sports and specifically men's BBall...........giving SJ the extension to 2018-19 is just crazy..............any buyout so early in the contract would cost many $$$$$$, which the university would be disinclined to shell out. Gene Doris and the non-sports administration have, as other posters have stated, been so inactive re sports that there is little chance of success. Success starts at the top and top is not interested..........very sad, but also easy to see, even outsiders like the Boston Globe or NYC media.
One of our best freshman classes. And Gene goes to the games, at least most of them. I think, like others, that his attendance may be lacking this season. HIs glasses must be tinted DARK rose.
