Thankfully the torture is over. Just a really really pathetic effort by everyone except Stevie Johnston. We cant score, dribble, defend, shoot, make a FT, or inbound the ball.
About time that Steve Johnson saw some playing time...great 3pt shooting. This is further confirmation that Syd lacks a full understanding of his own players talents and capabilities.
We play AAU basketball...so-so defense, guards chucking threes, penetration only to kick it out, no inside game, poor passing skills, limited ball movement, limited reversal of the basketball, and a generally poor job winning 50-50 balls. We need smart, disciplined players, but the young guys need to take their cues from the coaches and play the right way. There is ownership of this atrocity from all levels.
Guys, I am a Fairfield stag pumper for life, but we were embarrassed today. The performance and coaching was terrible. I want to see the silver linings this season, but it's really an excuse to keep blaming the situation on youth and inexperience. Sydney embarrassed Malcolm by putting him in the game down 26 points with three minutes to go. The expectations of this program have risen and this is not worth the half a million dollars a year we put on our head coach.
1) the players don't seem to care. They are going through the motions. I would serve warning on a few if they can't show some enthusiasm. I would rather start over with players who have passion. Which leads me to ... 2) at least half of our players are not Div. 1 athletes. They would make decent Div. 2 players - maybe. The other half have major weaknesses that must be remedied in the off season. 3) Sydney has to be given short-term deadlines by Gene. The mess we see out there on the court is his doing. We are rapidly coming to a point where this ship is unsalvageable, and heads have to roll. I can barely watch this team any more. 4) It's ridiculous to think that passing around the perimeter for 3 point air balls is the kind of coaching we got. Half of the time on our offense the ball doesn't even get inside the 3 point line. That is pitiful. Putrid. 5) Gene, do something...Many fans have zero confidence we will ever get back to where Cooley had us.

Well----how much evidence do you need that this guy is a bad coach----I have been telling you no--- sane person would keep making excuses for him--I said it before until the Administration and Board really cares about FU BB we will continue to have this mess--get rid of him and beg Joey D to please take over the job--I bet he will turn it around--the players have stopped playing for him because the man does not know what he is doing and he has just about demoralized the players and fans--please pay him off and send him on his way!
Ok. Just got back from the game and all I can say is WOW. We stink. The players are not playing that hard anymore. My 8 year old son and I counted 4 consecutive trips on offense and defense that Sydney did not utter a word. He just stood there. There is no improvement from these guys. It's the same since November. This is awful. Sydney must go. To waste another year with him would be detrimental to the future of the program. His recruits and offensive schemes are not up to D1 standards. Anyone who thinks so is nuts...
Steve Pikiell of Stony Brook or Joey D would be excellent. Heck, I would even take Bob Simon over Sydney at this point. Sorry, but this is too far gone to think Sydney is the one to bring us to the top of the MAAC.
Just 1,503 at the game. This season is turning into the worst attendance ever since the move to Bridgeport in 2001-02. If it wasn't for the CT6 game with SHU the attendance average would be just about 1,500. Stag MAAC Basketball in the SJ era has seen less and less people every season going to the games in Bridgeport. Every year the SJ home attendance average is even worse than the previous year and the worst of any other Stag coach. This is killing the momentum and buzz that Ed Cooley built for Stag Basketball especially at the arena in Bridgeport. Hopefully GD and the Trustees are aware of this?
I was at the game today with my son and grandson. As my son watched Stevie making three pointers while his teammates labored in futility, he made this astute observation "If your best shooter is a Walkon, then you have real issues." This team cannot shoot from anywhere on the court. And our guys cannot make layups, which is the most elementary of shots. Has the coaching staff accurately evaluated the players before offering scholarships? I am really beginning to wonder..Finally, based on what I saw, Stevie should be starting.
