I agree with your posts...I hope this kid embodies all that we stand for as a school and becomes the next Terrence Todd.
I think what TMAAC and others are saying is...why are we getting pumped for a kid who is going to Walk on and may/may not play? That seems like we're simply grasping at straws for something to be excited about.
We're in trouble and this sort of recruit isn't doing much to ease anyone's concern. That said, I agree...welcome to FU Jared!
Who knows? Every other week we hear about our interest in New JUCOS or recruits. I have no idea what this bum is doing??? He obviously is still actively shopping around, so go get somebody legit for once...
The grass is not always greener... I think we are getting too negative on this board against current players. Do we really want to create a reputation for high turnover of players? I understand it at the margin, but if more than one is gone this year, I view that as a HUGE negative in light of the last 2 years.
Bottomline, we could have won many of these games with these players. I firmly believe that.
welcome on board , he can't hurt, we need all the help we can get. However, realistically he won't be answer next year. Even his coach indicates if he works hard at some time he may get court time. NO risk , only upside.
Shooting %is down on every guard we have.why is that ..also now we have a turnstyle of who plays and who gets yanked..stevei us the only one of late showing consistency..but is he it ..how could grennan davis chappel jenkins rose score at one point and now they cant.? I like rose ..but at 46%from foul line and 31% from 3..i dont know ..plus high turnovers yet ...grennan ball handling i think is pretty good but at 29% from 3 ..you have to wonder .jenkins i like but tovers and cold spells ..on and on . Are the guards pressing too much .. I wonder ....what is going on really ..

I also agree with the posts that say there is no downside to this move. In fact maybe given his football background this kid might be able to help the team a little bit in the "toughness department," during practice sessions. But anyway, like with anyone else becoming a Stag, I want to also say, welcome Jared!

JWest dares to raise a topic that I have thought about a lot. Grennan, Chappel and Davis all had reputations as relatively high percentage shooters in high school. But they come to Fairfield and can't shoot. Now did they all of a sudden forget how to play? Or is there some legitimate cause of this issue. Perhas the game is too quick at this level, or they are told not too shoot, or are shooting when not open but when the diagramed play says they are supposed to shoot. I think the structure in this offense may be a difficult things for a new player to adjust to. Maybe they are pressing to hard to prove they belong or to prove they should start? I don't know. I think the lack of quickness some of these players have or their lack of physicality is a legit issue for some of these recruits. But I do think each of them can shoot a basketball and it is perplexing that they haven't had results that match their abilities statistically. I certainly still think some of these guys have a lot of room to grow and I hope Sydney doesn't give up prematurely on all these prospects.

And RF I would add Smith to the mix. But this idea of freshmen not living up to their reputations as shooters is certainly not without precedent. For example just check out Michael Van Schaik's percentages in his first year as a Stag in 2003-04. 33% from the field, 26% from the arc. Obviously not very good for someone who became known as a great shooter before his career was over, right? So yes I agree with you in that I hope Sydney doesn't give up too early on these guys.
From the NERR article on Harper choosing Fairfield:
...Prior to his leg injury Harper was known as an explosive athlete and deadly shooter on the west coast...
I hope he's also a deadly shooter on the east coast.
That line from the article reminded me of one of my favorite quotes on the wall of the gift shop at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield ---- Our team is loaded with great outside shooters; unfortunately, we play all of our games indoors.
I'm not 100% certain which coach said that but it wouldn't surprise me to find out it was Abe Lemmons.
I think Davis benefited from being the 3rd option in prep school
His team had Vonleah and Travis Jorgensen who ended up going to Georgia Tech. Jorgensen is a true point guard
What I find interesting is since the 2nd half of the Siena game we have seen a steady diet of zone defense. I feel our recruiting has been geared exactly to players that are most comfortable playing against a zone( Smith,Chappell ,SG Marcus, Harper now). Yet we are still having teams beat us playing zone.
I don't remember if Monmouth played zone against us last time. But until we show we can shoot well enough to beatone j would expect to see more of it.
