Green Bay lost at home to UW-Milwaukee today 73-63. With the loss Green Bay is now 19-5. They are ranked 6th in the mid-major 25. Their game was on espn3 just as our game was with Monmouth. We drew 1,000+ fans while Green Bay drew a little over 6,000.
But this is what surprised me. When I went on their proboards site 3 hours after their game ended -- there were a total of 9 posts with 170 total views on today's game with Milwaukee.
I counted 33 posts on our board about the Monmouth game before the game ended.
Although we're not enjoying a very successful season, there's no denying Stag fans are still very passionate about our basketball team.

Speaking of the Green Bay game, maybe the coaching staff should go back to the tape of that one. Was that the same Steve Smith that doesn't get any playing time now? His upside looked huge then. What has happened in the interim?

Exactly! Hard to cultivate potential from the farthest end of the bench.

I really was perplexed that Smith did not get off the bench at all against Monmouth. We went to a three guard offensive of Jenkins, Rose and Johnston. How about 2 of those and smith taking the three and shooting some threes. I'd love to see the guy in the game when we aren't down by a dozen points.

When we extended our lead to 49-40 we went mostly with a 3-guard offense. Plus we made a concerted effort not to chuck up as many 3-pointers...... it seemed to work.

While its true that we "extended" our lead slightly (by three points) with the 3 guard offense we build the lead with only 2 guards. We went on a 13-4 run over 6:07 with 2 guard offense, and only a 7-4 run with the 3 guard offense. Here's the Fairfield side of the play by play.
At the 16:15 mark Fairfield went on a 20-6 On the floor at the start of the run were: Steve Johnston Justin Jenkins Maurice Barrows KJ Rose Marcus Gilbert
17:42 29-34 Fairfield Down 5 15:50 32-34 3 PTR by Gilbert, Marcus 15:07 34-34 LAYUP by Sidibe, Amadou [PNT] 14:31 36-34 2 PTR by Rose, KJ SUB IN : Johnson, Coleman SUB OUT: Barrow, Maurice 13:05 37-36 Free Throw Johnston, Steve 12:37 40-36 3 PTR by Gilbert, Marcus 12:02 42-38 JUMPER by Johnson, Coleman [PNT]
13-4 Run over 6:07 with 2 guard offense
Start of 3 guard offense 11:35 SUB IN : Jenkins, Justin SUB OUT: Johnson, Coleman 1:08 44-38 Layup by Rose 10:11 45-40 Free Throw Marcus Gilbert 09:43 47-40 JUMPER by Gilbert, Marcus 08:40 49-40 JUMPER by Rose, KJ 07:33 49-42 SUB IN : Barrow, Maurice SUB OUT: Johnston, Steve 7-4 Run over 4:02 with 3 guard offense
So the bulk of the points were scored with the 2-guard not the 3-guard offense. But with regards to Smith, I don't think it matters. I wonder, why do you consider him a forward? He has no inside skills at all, and in fact has only taken three shots all season inside the arc. So he is primarily an outside shooter, a skill that you would typically associate with a 3-guard not a forward. I understand Smith may have limited ball skills, but offensively he plays the role of a 3 guard in my view. So I think the point that he could play alongside 2 of the other guards is valid even if you want to run with what some like to call a three guard offense.
