I'm sure some of the old timers will remember Edgar Cartotto. He officiated many Fairfield games back in the day. I just saw that he passed away not too long ago. Not sure if this had been reported previously. As a Stag fan, this guy always drove me nuts. It seemed he had it in for FU. As a basketball official, I have great respect for someone who spent 55 years involved in officiating. It is not easy and it is a thankless job. www.northjersey.com/obituaries/Edgar_Cartotto_of_Wyckoff_a_dean_of_basketball_officiating_dies.html

Comments on him from another nemesis:
Tim Higgins, who retired as a college basketball referee last year, called Mr. Cartotto a mentor. “Edgar was smarter than everybody else,” said Higgins, who lives in Ramsey. “He always knew the score and the time, and he knew the implication of every call he would make.”

He was rated highly, as the obit. says. And the fact he became a coordinator of officials suggests he was well regarded in the industry. Did he screw the Stags? Don't know Va., but didn't he work a lot of Fred's games when scratch lists could be used? If Fred didn't like him would he have been there so often?
