Will the two players from the team be put back as team members ..or will they continue to try to find their focus and commitment by not being able to work out with their teammates maybe they should be on the bench. But NOT dismissal..its amazing that we allow the ruin of a once upcoming program be demolished by this coach ..but lets give him years to get it right..but the student athlete gets one year to prove his worth and if not ..run him out..disgraceful!!

Jwest, not saying I agree or disagree, but I understand your sentiment. The problem is that we are contractually obligated to pay a significant amount of money to this coach that the the University cannot and will not eat.
With 5 games left in the regular season, the Stags are (5-21)(2-13) and already have lost to all of the next 5 teams:
2/15/2014 * Rider University Bridgeport, Conn. H 4 pm - Lost at Rider 65-73 (8 points) 2/20/2014 * Niagara University Niagara University, N.Y. A 7 pm - Lost at WBA 63-67 (4 points) 2/22/2014 * Canisius College Buffalo, N.Y. A 2 pm - Lost at WBA 58-84 (26 points) 2/25/2014 * Saint Peter's University Jersey City, N.J. A 7 pm - Lost at WBA 55-56 (1 point) 2/28/2014 * Marist College Bridgeport, Conn. H 7 pm - Lost at Marist 56-75 (19 points)
Which of the next 5 teams can/could/will this SJ team beat?
I'm looking forward to Mo putting this team on his back the next 5 games. He has been fun to watch and hope that he is able to finish his career with a few more tastes of victory.
Jwest - what are Grennan and Davis doing right now? Hopefully "whatever they can" is the answer I'd want. That would be lifting, running, shooting as much as possible.
Stagophile- it's an awful message that we are putting out that a significant reason the SJ is around is because he is too expensive to fire.
No message is being sent out that Sydney is going to be fired.
Putting aside the contract, I think the only thing saving SJ right now (at least in my mind) is the incoming recruiting class which looks very promising. But if next year is a dud too, the University will have to make a move. Another year of losing and roster turmoil would be completely unacceptable and would be a long term PR and financial disaster for the the program. As I said in a previous post, I do hope the new Finance EVP Kevin Lawlor is more involved in this situation. I really don't think the people who got us here can be trusted to handle this in an objective manner.
Oh, and as for the original question, I don't see us winning another game this year. I think the Siena loss destroyed the last shred of confidence that this team may have had. Prove me wrong boys!

It's an indirect message, IMO. If you were in charge of this situation with a one year contract, would SJ be your man? FU might not be the right place for him. Joe Torre didn't succeed in LA after the Yankees.

I agree that a good recruiting class next year is a must and we have to score on 2 guards as real players. But the reason that we should want Sydney as our coach is that he has shown he can win big games. His recuiting has to show more, but he did recruit well and build an NCAA team at Princeton.

Brian earle at princeton was the brains of the operation there not SJ . He knew it as well..which is why he didnt make the move with SJ To fairfield .he knew!! And as far as next year ..its clear even if the recruits are worth while. Great ingrediants without a chef is just wasted ingrediants.

Jwest. - Earle may have been good but I don't think he was the top assistant an Princeton-he is now the top assistant there. He moved up. That's great for him I can't knock SJ on that-a guy got a promotion. Brian Nash was a great get on SJs part as a top assistant for his first year. Nash had a great reputation as a recruiter and prior head coach experience. The current crew is responsible for Grennan and Davis.
