Also, I always knew that FU73 appreciated my contributions as a "non-Fairfield interloper."
Nope, wrong again. Use your dictionary to find the definition of interloper. You still don't get it. Don't send me another message about how you tried to stay away from posting here but you couldn't help yourself. Now actually go start posting on you own Quinnipiac Board that Stago set up for you. Good-bye.

There seems to me to be a thread with in this thread. Coaching. Lots of talk about sid not being good coach and not being accountable for the losses this season. However, lets start discussing what his assistants are bringing to the program? Tony Newsome, an enigma, very little emotion during the game, appears very quiet during time-outs. Tyson Wheeler, who was an excellent guard at RI. You would think with Tyson's coaching, our guards would show more improvement then what we have seen so far this season. The exception to that statement would be KJ Rose who IMO has improved. Martin Bahar, nice guy, who shows lots of emotion during the game. He is also willing to communicate with the fans. I am not sure what his coaching abilities really are beyond being the only firey guy on the staff. leader? recruiting?

A lot of talk on why we didn't go to the FT line more in the 2nd half. Watching the game, we kept going to the rim. Mo attacked the rim almost every time we had the ball. The refs stopped calling the close fouls and Rider stopped fouling. We missed a bunch of shots around the basket.
My biggest complaint about Sydney is that Rider ran the same exact press the entire game and we were still struggling with it in the 2nd half. SJ took out Johnston because he was getting eaten alive by the press. Rose was the only guard who could regularly handle it. Chappell was the only other help and he was struggling. Amadou and Malcolm had some brutal turnovers against that press. How we couldn't beat that press was the most frustrating part of this loss.
On Grennan and Davis, I'm confident nobody on this board knows what exactly has happened. The speculation on both sides of the argument is disappointing. I will say I know nothing about Davis. He has hardly played but I don't think it should be assumed that any freshman should play consistently unless he is a clear cut starter (i.e Needham). I saw a lot of Grennan and it was not pretty. His shooting was really bad, and he dribbles with his head down eating up a ton of the shot clock. Based on performance alone I can see why Grennan and Davis didn't see a ton of time lately.
Something that I feel has hurt this team the most is the regression of Sidibe. I'm hoping it is a sophomore slump but not having a reliable post scorer has made us completely reliable on subpar 3 point shooting.

I want to be the first to point out that this has nothing to do with Sydney's coaching ability. There is no way he could have noticed that Sidibe lacked a quality low post offensive move last season or given Sidibe some drills to work on in the offseason. I agree with the poster(s) who are implying that SJ is hindered by assistant coaches who are unable or unwilling to help improve the players on the team. Hopefully, someone will investigate to find out who hired and/or promoted these inept assistant coaches.
Having achieved tremendous success at Princeton, Sydney knew it was best to wait 15-18 games into the season to mention that Sidibe was playing with tendinitis in his knees at the start of the year. It's best to keep the fans in the dark on things like this plus our opponents probably devoted more of their pregame preparations on Sidibe than they should have.
Seriously, I agree with stagshoops3. Not having a reliable post scorer allows our opponents to play the perimeter closely.
However, if not having a reliable post scorer is problem #1 on our team then problem #1A is not having a consistent 2G who's a good ballhandler and can consistently hit his jump shots.
I agree only partly on davis .and grennan and amadou. Davis i think still has value ..and since when do you run kids out becauss tgey under achieve the first year ..shouldnt they all have a chance to develope ..grennan has had both his good and bad moments .grennan was the starting guard In 3 of the 5 games we won...and played the majority of manhattan game for that win..grennan from what i see was shooting 41%from 3 .before the belmont game ..than momnmouth game..and shooting was way bad for those two games.. Then he got booted.. Amadou .you say is not as good this year .but next year should be better . Johnson .as,a coach we a agree has been terrible.. So why dont we give davis and grennan more time.to develope ..what experts here say they cant get better.. Why the run out.?? Without reason.. Some one speak up for these two. Besides their captain..

What is it with all these "phrase" posters lately? Does anybody write in full sentences anymore? Now this is an issue that rightfully should make 1968stags concerned about the cheapening of his Fairfield degree! ;-)
Stagophile, you bring up a great point.i might be dating myself as I am in the class of 1968, but we old guys tended to speak in complete sentences. The aged of 100 character "tweets" had not arrived yet.

Staghoops---are you kidding? the refs stopped calling fouls---no way -- this is on SJ--the guards did not take the ball to the hoop--we were not aggressive enough!!
bob, please stop questioning Sydney's coaching strategies. Drawing fouls to get to the free throw line when the other team is over the limit is not the way success was achieved at Princeton. Therefore, there is no reason to think such a strategy would have been successful yesterday.
In addition, KJ picked up his 3rd foul with 15 minutes left to go in the game, Rider was employing a 3/4 court zone press and then settling back into a matchup zone (it's fairly difficult to get to the rim on a drive against a zone defense), and having been at the game, Rider's players for the most part were extremely quick and excellent leapers.
Without Grennan and Davis available, and with KJ in foul trouble; which of the following guards did you think should have been driving to the hoop to get to the foul line: Chappell, Johnston, Jenkins, or Leone?
I have been disappointed in the regression of Sidibe. His offensive game has gone completely south. Talking about regression, how about Coleman Johnson? Ever notice all the other players running off the court at halftime or at the end of games and Johnson walks. Others rise and clap during timeouts and Coleman sits, with no emotion.

I definitely noticed that about Coleman Johnson and Steve Smith. The body language is not good and of concern. Have they checked out mentally??? This has been a hard season to deal with for all of us and I wouldn't be surprised if they have checked out.
Johnson talks about commitment .so here it is .the players feel that johnson should have been committed to both players..he pushed out . Certainly when the captain says its unfair .what do you think starts to happen..the lack of harmony on this team is evident..

Bob, were you at the game? If so, you would have seen Mo get called for a charge, Amadou get bumped on several attempts, and Rider pack I the paint forcing Fairfield to shoot from the outside. This might be hard for you to believe but just because a team fouls early, doesn't mean they automatically keep fouling.
