1) Freshmen become sophmores-We had 2 All MAAC Rookie players returning and another player who lost a large part of his freshman year due to injury showing real potential when he worked his way into the rotation at the end of the year. I assumed that with a year of college ball under their belt, some physical maturity and the normal progression of skill level we would have a front line that would give other teams real problems. This jump hasn't happened. 2) Shooters- We were an abysmal outside shooting team save for the occasions when Derrick went on a roll-but he was a scorer not a shooter. Couldnt wait to see real SHOOTERS! And we had 3 coming in. Well our shooters certainly shoot a lot of 3's but making them is a problem. 3) Big East transfers-One would think that Big East recruits could really help a MAAC level program-hasn't happened (though I believe Malcolm has not been given the chance he deserves)
Grennan was shooting 41.7 % from 3 Before belmont game But the belmont ..monmouth was terrible for him ..2games ..so lets throw him off the team ..? He along with others have had games when they shot poor ...whos to say grennan .davis .smith .all of them even gilbert dont get better..even malcom ...does a 7ft kid deserve the bench ..maybe the coach cant get any better..

Regarding terpstags post, I think he summarizes how many of us felt going into the season quite nicely. I am surprised how bad things have been.
With regard to Jwest's point, You can say Davis was never a high percentage three point shooter in high school and that would be fair. Grennan was an 88% free throw shooter, and above 40 beyond the arc. So I think he has proven he the ability to shoot when open. He wasn't recruited into the big east without reason.
You have to ask why hasn't he done that here? To much pressure to produce immediately? Is he distracted from handling the ball? Has he been shooting when he isn't open? Is the college game too fast for him? Has he just not taken enough shots for him to attain his average? I think grennan hasn't played enough to draw conclussions about his abilities. I agree he hasn't played well and is below my expectations. But this is being measured against a short body of work. And his shooting has been no worse than rose's. The issue is rose is out there to be a distributor, and Grennan to hit 40% of his three point shots. So in a sense rose is doing what we need him to do and grennan is not.
I will also say smith could hit 45% of his treys if he gets enough open looks. He is over 30% as it is and just about every attempt is an offbalanced desperation heave. I don't understand why we can't play him 5 minutes a game. He nearly beat Green Bay single handedly and now doesn't play at all. The season is over. Play this kids so you can see what you have and so that you don't lose him.

Everybody has got a chance to show their stuff this year. Many times the bench players would play 15-25 minutes per game for mutiple games in a row and then not play at all for some games. IMO, I feel that is a much better way to see what a player can do, rather than play everyone 5 minutes a game. Chappell is the one that has been given a chance the last few games.
I also feel it is still extremely important that this years team Achieves some level of success..... win some "close" games, Get out of 11th place, win 2 games in a row, and/or win some Games in the MAAC tournament. So I feel we still need to play our best players. We also have 2 major competitions occurring right now, and whoever wins these will have a leg up going into next season
Coleman vs Malcolm Chappell vs Jenkins vs Johnston
I do think Steve Smith has done some good things on the court recently, Besides shooting. He seems more comfortable on the court as oppossed to rushed. I would like to see him get 15-20 mpg and actually start, instead of Coleman.

Grennan and Malcolm were recruited by the Big east----a much better conference we would agree than the Macc----but they have not played in over a year having to sit out via NCAA rules---so the coach needed to be patient, but he was not--so Grennan lost the pt guard spot to Rose--and Malcolm picks up Sedebe's crums---Does one really think--Rose/Sidebe getting the majority of minutes over Grennan/ Malcolm was the better choice? this Coach did!!!

I think if both Grenann and Malcolm were given the minutes Rose/Sedebe were given at point and center, we would be a much better team now!!!!--no doubt

I thought we'd better because we went out and spent a boatload of cash on a staff that on paper and in the show room looked great. What's Connecticut's lemon law?

Stag 79--you are not trying to tell me we would have not at least had the same record are you? what are you smoking? we have lost over 20 games--we would have had a better record than we have if we did what I said
I would rather have seen Malcolm play before Sidibe and I don't think that Grennan was given enough of a shot. Sidibe is a project who has not played much basketball. I have to think that Malcolm has more potential and wish that he had been given more minutes.
Anyone can see Malcolm's upside is so high, but he would need to be guided by someone who has experience developing big men and can actually work with him individually. There is no such person on our staff although there should be. While Sydney throws his players under the bus, our coaching staff looks like a bunch of empty suits.
If our recruiting was so off target last year that we have to upgrade our roster now, I would hope those responsible for recruiting this group are getting heat.

I like Sidibe but also agree that Malcolm has not been given enough minutes this season. Sidibe is Harold Brandley, a decent player that ca become good. Malcolm is Pete deBisshop, a decent player that can become great. Both need to be developed, but long term, you have to consider who can do more to lead the team to the promised land. Even if Sidibe is more ready to contribute today (as I think he is) Gilbert needs to be given some minutes. I felt the same way last year about Jenkins; sure Wade, Nickerson and Needham were more developed players but Jenkins was given inadequate development time, and we're paying for that this season.
