Nashville, regarding your comment that Smith should be credited with a field goal attempt; this is from Elsberry's article on the St. Peter's game in Springfield:
...Fairfield did have one final try, but Steve Smith's half court prayer missed wide right and the Stags walked off the floor in stunned disbelief...

Quick story regarding scorebook error from a long time ago. I was at a game at Loyola, I think 1997, the year Shane Miller was redshirting because of his bad back. After the game I checked the scorebook at the table (because of ancient times and no automatic internet report), and for some reason they had Shane in the book as performing in that game (maybe one mark such as a personal foul or a missed foul shot, whatever). I told Gene Doris on the spot because I feared that maybe him being listed as officially in this game could have somehow killed his redshirt year. As I remember, Gene then took appropriate action to make sure the mistake was corrected. But the point is mistakes do happen, sometimes they don't mean much, but yet maybe a simple mistake could lead to problems down the road.
I emailed Elsberry about Lincoln Davis being listed as having played one minute in the boxscore and Smith not being credited with a field goal attempt even though he took the last shot in overtime. This is part of his response:
...this has been a problem ever since the tournament went to Springfield ... the MAAC people handle all the stats and they are simply INEPT at doing so...
Elsberry also stated he hopes Jack Jones corrects the boxscore for Fairfield's stats.

I thinks its up to the scorer/a judgment call whether or not a shot such as Smith's counts as an attempt or not - I'm not sure if that should be changed. The Davis minute is an error and should be fixed.
