Interestingly Kevin Ollie received a $66,666 bonus for winning the NCAA Championship last night but Calipari would have won a $375,000 bonus if Kentucky had won the game. Still hard to feel sorry for him:
John Calipari was unable to win his second national title in three years Monday night, as Kentucky fell to UConn 60-54. He also missed out on a huge bonus with the loss. A $375K bonus, to be exact. Calipari has already made $275,000 from bonuses for making the Sweet 16 ($100,000) and Final Four ($175,000), and a victory over Connecticut tonight would be worth another $375,000. That adds up to a potential total of $650,000, a nice 12% bonus on the $5.4 million or so he makes in base pay.
UConn coach Kevin Ollie, meanwhile, took home a $66,666 bonus with the win.
These were still Calhoun recruits, so good for Kevin for making the absolute best out of it but chickens will come home to roost if he doesnt continue the success with his own recruits.
Stags10, You are incorrect. Ollie recruited Deandre Daniels using his California connection while he was an assistant coach. In addition, 2 of his 3 freshman recruits were major contributors. Amida Brimah is the 7 foot kid from africa is going to be a big time player and was great on the defensive end all year. Not a highly rated recruit but a major diamond in the rough. Terrence Samuel was a major factor in the tourney and they would not have won without him. They have very talented recruiting classes already signed up for next year and the following year. These players were all signed up before the NCAA tourney. Top big man Govan will likely committ very soon. Ollie is a class act and gets maximum effort out of his guys. Sydney could learn a few things from him. Sorry for all the Uconn haters but they are going to be good for the long haul and likely will be pulled into ACC if ACC is smart.
Atlanta, you are correct. Ollie is a class act and will someday be coaching in the pros. I was no fan of Calhoun, but UCONN is on the rise and will be fun to watch compared to some teams near and dear to my heart as a 50+ year Stag fan

" make my check out to cash " cheating, or looking the other way, it happens. in reference to the scum bag program in connecticut. the governor went to jail the mayor of bridgeport went to jail kickbacks in business turning your head when that good looker walks by, it happens. the only 3 programs that we know for sure, that are clean - - sacred heart duke fairfield maybe yale it is not right, it is not fair. fairfield only has 387 people that pay for season tickets. they play fair, most of the world does not care. fairfield lost about 25 this year, but if you read this far, you care. it happens.
What an angry group of little men we have on this website. There is nothing wrong with talking about Uconn or Duke or whoever. If you don't like it then don't respond or read the link. I am a college basketball fan first and foremost. I rout for the Stags but what they displayed this past season was tough to stomach. So excuse me for talking about something other than how bad Sydney is and how he destroyed the program and how he mistreats the players. And of course how we can't get rid of him because of his huge contract. I will refrain from talking about anything other than depressing things that are Stagcentric.

Atlanta,
Don't stop talking about college basketball. The thread is labelled UCONN-Kevin Ollie. Yours and all the other comments are absolutely appropriate. College basketball in the state has an impact on FU. Don't read the thread if you don't like the topic.
That said, I always had great disdain for the UCONN program under Calhoun. Never liked him and never will. I don't feel the same about Ollie. He seems to be a decent guy without the arrogance and ego of his predecessor. As to the shenanigans that go on up there, well that has to be expected to compete with a BCS program. The NCAA looks the other way with these programs because of the $$$ involved.
The only piece of the program that bothers me is lack of humility of the fans. Win gracefully Husky fans. It is much more becoming.
