Pete Kirschner was named Fairfield University’s Associate Athletics Director for Marketing and Communications. The announcement was made by Director of Athletics Gene Doris. “We are very pleased to have someone with Pete’s experience join our department,” Doris said. “His background will help us achieve our goal of building our fan base and enhance our game-day experience. He has the expertise to integrate both marketing and communications to create an overall strategic plan for Fairfield athletics.”
Kirschner will oversee the department’s marketing strategy, athletic communications, ticket sales and operations, social media, multimedia content, spirit groups and community relations. Before arriving at Fairfield, Kirschner was the Senior Director of Marketing for Georgetown University Athletics where he was responsible for the day-to-day marketing efforts and overall strategy of the department. Under Kirschner’s direction, the Hoyas set attendance records for football, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball as well as women’s lacrosse.www.fairfieldstags.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=209479262&DB_OEM_ID=32500

Looks like a great hire from an upper and big time program at Georgetown. Hopefully Pete Kirschner will be given a budget and the authority that will allow him to do what he wants and needs to do to reach the "goal of building our fan base and enhance our game-day experience". Business as usual did not seem to be working despite Roy Brown's efforts. A few years ago late one August we were at the Stag Volleyball game in Jamaica, NY for the St. John's Volleyball Tournament. With your game day ticket, all fans got a FREE slice of pizza at a local pizzeria and nobody ever buys just 1 slice, nor did I. What was most interesting to me was that many of the stores (restaurants, deli, cleaners ,etc.) along Utopia Parkway had the St. John's Fall Sports Schedule (Red Storm Volleyball and Soccer) in their front windows and I assume the other Red Storm Schedules later in the year. With the proper budget, responsibility and authority to market to local business in the greater Fairfield/Bridgeport area this could be an effective way to get more of the local community aware, interested and involved with Stag sports. Apparently St. John's thought it was a good idea. As much as he wanted to, Roy Brown was not allowed the authority to do this locally. A t-shirt cannon for the WBA and AH will also make a difference to the fans not in the first rows. Unfortunately it was not allowed in his budget either.
